After 2 years with excellent credit with this bank they raise my annual apr % to 29.99, for no reason. Maybe because I have very good credit with them hahahah. Do not get any credit card from this bank let them learn their lesson.

Frank must be one of the fortunate ones that survived with credit intact. Providian did not sell my account and all correspondence still comes from them. The rest of us whose accounts were cancelled will have to start all over again with another sleazy credit card issuer or do without. I do not know how anyone in today's world can do without at least a little credit. It's impossible to make reservations and do many other simple things without a credit card.

I am apparently missing something that I do not understand. Several months ago I received a letter from Providian that Chase purchased their credit cards , and on a certain date Chase would take over. On that date, Chase took over, issued me a credit card at the same APR , and now sends the bills to me. I called Providian on the number listed on its credit card and got a message saying to call Chase about any credit card matters. My point is how can Providian be doing this at this date if they don't handle credit cards anymore?

I just filed a complaint to the FTC about Providian due to their decision on 09/06/02 to close my account for no reason. I was promised their help in rebuilding my credit almost 3 years ago when I first got my very costly Visa Card from them but now instead I once again have no credit. I do not understand their actions as I have a copy of my credit report in front of me and the only item that has changed since they issued the card is one that is currently in dispute. Everyone stung by these people should file complaints with every government agency involved with banking and maybe with a little luck and a lot of perceverance maybe someone will help.

Our customers keep wondering why things like this keep happening. Well, its not just to the customers but to the employees as well. Ever since Joe Saunders took over the compnay, major changes have been taking place. As for the customers, the company wants to move on to just servicing the higher credit limit accts. So they are coming up with many stupid reasons to raise APR's and close accts. They hope that if they raise an APR that people with low-line accts will just close them and go away. Some of the reasons would be customers that take too many cash advaces (even those who have excellent credit history with us) or people who simply do not use their card enough. I have seen the accts that have been closed and it is so hard to explain to the customer that the compnay thinks the customer is a credit risk. It's absurd. And just recently the company has moved on to trying to get rid of its employees. Joe Saunders said he was out to eliminate 2600 jobs. And then the next week, in the San Antonio Call center there is chaos. They start firing Senior Managers and Managers for no reasons at all...simply said they just didnt fit in any more. (The weird thing is that most were African Americans.) And then the week after they start firing regular representatives. Most of the reps were fired for reasons such as rudeness or call avoidance. But of couse the Human Resouce dept had no proof. Now, I think that most people know that all calls at a call center of a financial company are recorded. However, all those "bad" calls just happened to be the ones not recorded. How funny is that? But what we all know...Providian is a very shady company with bad business ethics. So they are trying to get rid of their customers. And they are trying to get rid of their employees on fake calls so the company wont have to give severance packages. I for one am desperately searching for another job.
