PSEG (Public Service Electric And Gas) Shut off electric services of disabled person just before November 15 winter termination deadline Jersey City New Jersey
PSEG was given money in my behalf by PACO an organization that is supposed to help low income people pay their utility bills. I received a letter from this organization stating that I was eligible and the funds wold be directly disbursed to PSEG, which it was. Well, for some unknown reason, after PSEG had received the funds in my behalf, I was told by PACO that I was not eligible for the funds, and PACO tok the money back from PSEG.
I do not know how PSEG could have let them take back the funds, but at any rate, I called PSEG to make payment arrangments on my bill, which was over $700. I live on SSI, so I can only afford so much a month, and I was willing t o make payments after this mishap. I spoke with a very nasty customer service rep who told me that I had to pay at least $400 or they were going to shut my services off. I called back again, and tried to speak with a supervisor to explain my situation, and what happened with PACO and I was told the same thing, $400 or they were turning off my services. $400 is well over half my monthly income from SSI.
I did not have the money, and PSEG cut off my electric service, right before the November 15 date of winter termination, where they would not have been so easily able to cut off my services. I am now being harassed by my building managment for using candles, and being threatened with eviction if I do not get my services turned back on in two weeks. In this circumstance, I feel that PSEG should have been more compassionate and understanding and willing to work out a payment arrangment in light of what happened with PACO and because of the cold weather. They should also get some nicer customer service representatives. PSEG is a unfeeling and uncaring company. They do not want to work out arrangments for people on fixed incomes.
