My Grandfather came in this morning with the thoughts that he had won $1,000,000.00 from Publishers Clearing House regarding the Martha Stewart Living Magazine Sponsorship.

Incldued was a check in the amount of $4,789.00. The letter instructed him to call Mr. Kevin Casey, for further instructions and information on his prize before depositing the check. I looked at the letter and it appears to be from Publishers Clearing House, the phone number I called also stated that Mr. casey was not in and I could leave a message. After further looking into this I noticed that the envelope did not show a return address. Then I noticed that the stamp was from Canada. That really meade me suspicous. It also stated that there was and IRS Agent Mr. Arthur Pierce was handling his file and he could take care of any financial questions. At the bottom was a big Congratulations from Cathy Stewart Chief Financial Officer.

Noting the stamp, and no return address on an envelope with a check for $4,789.00 I felt that there was something very worng here.

The Check was written on an account from VIS Technologies from 1300 Baxter Street in Charlotte NC 28204.

I went on line and found all of the other people who had received this same type of letter and had been suspicous or had been duped into this scam. I explained to my grandfather that this again was just another scam like he had been sent in the past. This isn't the first time that he has received mail of this nature. I explained to him that there was no merit in this check or letter after I showed him all of the other people that had gotten this he realized I was telling him the truth. I hope someone can get to these people and shut them down, although there will only be 10 more to take the place of each one that is caught.

This is a pure form of mail fraud of the worst kind. I have seen my grandfathers hopes shot down so many times and there is no telling how much money he has sent to scammers just like these. I know I have had to help bail him out of these kind of matters before.
