Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I joined several years ago while they had a "Special" I travel a lot for business and don't have the time to use the clubs facilities often. I pay my bills by auto debit{ so i won't be late with my bills}.

They have raised my dues without any warning or correspondence several times. I've been a member for over 5 years and I can't understand why It wouldn't have been paid off by now. I've called them each and every time that I had to change my credit card[due to Identity theft] and I always paid them. This last time I had Identity theft on my card, I decided since I've been disabled in an accident 3and a half years ago and I haven't been able to work out I'd just call and cancel.

I spoke to Chanelle from Pure Fitness about this situation and she told me I'd have to send a certified letter, a Dr's note , etc If I wanted to cancel but, that I'm still responsible to pay. Also that they need 60 days notice to cancel. They didn't give me 60 days notice to raise my dues. I have no lifetime contract with them! I've paid faithfully every month just in case my back would heal that I may indeed return.

They show no compassion about my disability nor any gratitude that in spite of my injury I've still paid my dues on time. I'd like to know if It's possible to sue them for all the months I've paid since my injury.I haven't used the club at all in over 3 years. In order to terminate my membership I need to send a registered letter. That was not in my original contract. I'd like to go through all my credit card statements and see how much they actually owe me. This club would continue to charge you If you were dead. They won't leave a person alone that needs $85k for surgery! Maybe i should sue them for harassing me! I've had it!

What you need to do is contact Commodore Mann.

I believe the email address for him was

[email protected]

if not, use

Sharon Knopf

[email protected]

I used to work for their billing department.

Chanelle is a sweet girl but is new to that position...

their contracts are like most auto-renew contracts...they auto renew unless you cancel. However, if you have been a member before the new contracts (2009) there were glitches in the database that affected members like yourself that should not have been raised...this is something Sharon or Commodore would agree with you on.

To cancel with Pure Fitness, the best way is to contact a good coordinator...it would have been myself but I quit last year.

There are exceptions that can be made but not many management takes the time to do them.

PLEASE NOTE- any and all complaints filed with the BBB are handed directly to Commodore, the unoffcial HR part-owner. He is the unofficial lawyer, and a good man- unlike other management please note.

Please contact me if you or anyone else needs advice...I still know many of the staff and understand your problems.

You stated you were not on a contract, and have been paying them in the hope that your back gets better.  As such you have not only been paying them willingly, but keeping them up to date when you change your credit cards.   Any suit you file based on getting your money back for this would be thrown out in a heartbeat.

Now, even IF having to cancel by Registered letter was not in the original contract, this is actually safest for you.  Because you now have proof that you sent in the cancellation as well as the date you did it.  Unlike over the phone where you can say you did but there is no proof.

Now, if you send in your registered letter and after the 60 days they are still withdrawing the money then you would have good grounds for a suit for any money they took after the cancellation.

I also don't see anywhere in your report that states why you are being sued..especially if you are paying them every month.
