I had difficulty connecting to my bank using Quicken 9~20 years usage). Looked up 'Quicken tech support' and this was first entry: Quicken-support.net. Dumb me. 71 years ols and every year I get dumber. Connected with "John" who soon became Pankaj from Delhi. I asked if this was Quicken and he assured me that it was, that Quicken had been sold, and that Quicken needed to be 'reset' before it would work again and that it would cost ~$500 for three years to use Quicken and this was the only way to do it. Something bothered me but I had work I needed to do so... In any case, he had me remote connect and then downloaded a large software bundle and did who knows what. Then, reconnecting to the bank, he had me enter all of my data while he was still watching remotely, all the time assuring me that all was well. At the very end after fixing what was then screwed up, the finale was a downloaded 'contract' requiring an electronic signature.

This is now on to two hours with this guy. It was at this point that my budding suspicions bloomed into a flower of open suspicion. I hesitated and I soon confirmed my nascent flowering with his pushing me to sign and saying that if I didn't sign, he would have to pay the $500 dollars ougt of his salary. He also started using 'shaming' tactics but I'm an exMarine and that rolled off me without contact. By this time I was sure it was a scam and that I would be paying $500 not for Quicken but for a 'service contract'. I said I needed to check some things and I would call him back. He doubled down on his tactics and, while he was taliking, found this site, Ripoff Reports, and read some other reports and that was that. I did advise him that if his employer really did dock his salary as he described, he needed to contact the Kentucky AG 9company location) and that I would do it for him if he felt uncomfortable doing so. I also informed him that I would be inquiring about his company with the Kentucky AG as well and the phone call came to a quick end. He misrepresented his employer, his own name, his purposes, and, given that he trashed my Quicken data file, his competence. I feel fortunate to have trusted my final instinct but foolish that I didn't see my error in trusting the URL quicken-support.net rather than support.quicken.com. I'm not at all a newbie but it was a very newbie screwup. I have no idea what else might have been loaded on my box.
