Anthony Surratt with Raeigh Fence Co. stole my money and left unsafe unfinished fence Red Oak Texas
5-12-09 quote received $4600 via email from Anthony Surratt at Raleigh fence company for side by side stained & sealed 6 inch picket fence
6/7/09 he dropped the price to $4400
6/12/09 my husband Rudy spoke to him about adding board on board & a bottom board.
6/13/09 I spoke to him about adjustment.
7/6/09 Wesley & 2 nephews came out & set post.
7/7/09 they began putting up pickets but left early because Wesley was getting sick.
7/8/09 I spoke to Mr.Surrat about the fence being board on board with bottom rail. brougt to his attention that the front 30ft were side by side & fence on the city street. He stated that there must have been a misunderstanding because he had brought the bottom board but not the board on board materials. Mr.Surratt said he would add 2x2's to make it look like board on board & if we did not like it he would tear down that portion but would like to leave the 30ft next to the house up for fianancial reasons. I told him I would take a look at the 2x2 adjustment & if we liked it then we would stay with it.
7/9/09 Wesley came. We did not like the 2x2 adjustment down the 130ft side facing the city street. He said he would tear it down & replace it with board on board which is what we were paying for. Mr.Surratt came in towards the end of the day & asked to be paid. I gave him a check for $5300. He said he would finish the work to my satisfaction & sorry for the miscommunication, he said that he usually charges $400 per gate but would only charge me $100 since he had not remembered our conversation about the gate. We left out of town.
7/12/09 We arrived back from our trip. We emailed him pix. Our fence was horrible no stain/seal! We have 130ft of sagging fence facing the street, you can see the bottom board on the corners of the fence then the pickets sag & sitting on the ground in the middle.front 30ft section next to the house is board on board & side by side mixed.10ft corner gate is sagging, not able to close.corner by the driveway is sloped from the bottom board being shown along the ally then dropped down running parellel with the driveway.gate on the drive way side was slanted with jagged edges. no bottom board on driveway side. When any gates are open the whole fence moves.Inside the gates were pieces together with scrap wood. the brackets were not screwed to anything. 2x4's that hold pickets were cut and pieced together. Nails were sticking out all over We have 75+ broken,shattered,split or rotten bowed pickets. we had one section of fence that was 9.5ft long with no steelpost between. Our latches and hardware are crooked/bent. you can see through the board on board &the pickets are not nailed to bottom board. Each gate should have 2 post. Our gates do not. 1 gate is 33" wide & other gate is 5'6ft wide.no spring on doors for since we have a pool. a small part of the fence next to the house has no post & is moving. The conversation was intense & I told him if he wanted to hear that I was to blame I would say it but I needed my fence fixed he had been paid for. I told him i would help if needed. He said he would be out 7/13.
7/13 he never called/showed.
7/14 wesley came & put up a toprail to cover sagging fence,replaced 18ft of side by side,cut the bottom of one of the gates that was a hazard & put up another post. He left without contacting us about our concerns. Emailed Mr.Surratt pix & he returned email that he would be out thur.
7/16 he texted that he would not make it
7/18 he texted that he had an emergency &could not make it &would come mon.
7/20 he said he would come fri/sat.
7/25 wife said he was napping.
7/30 my husband contacted him. He said that we would never be happy with his work,we were complainers he did not know when he would come.He alleged my husband cursed at him then said he was done with our fence. My husband emailed him to clarify he was done &listed a few concerns so we could continue.
7/31 he emailed that he was done with our fence and any other contact he would file harassment charges.
I have recieved 3 estimates. only 2 state that they can patch the work but ultimatly the fence needs to come down. They are hesitant to fix gates because they do not want there name associated with the horrible quality of the fence. The post are not in ground far enough. fence is not stained or sealed. pickets are 5 1/2" not 6" Many pickets are already rotting from quality of wood and sitting on wet ground. gates need to be taken down and made from scratch. they are not framed or squared. there is only 3 rails and there should be 4 rails for 8ft fence. pickets can not be raised to show bottom board, they have to be taken down and are not useable after tearing them from boards. gate hardware is bent from weight of gates and improperly installed. nails and screws have to be clipped off to prevent sharp edges from continuing to harm children. this is check by theft,he did not finish this job. this is also false advertisment the pickets are not 6" stained and sealed pickets, but it takes money to file civil suit or in small claims court.
