Ramada Resort Hotels Ripoff! Offer of "Free" Holiday Cruise required my credit card number. Orlando Florida
After a long sales pitch for a supposed free holiday at the Ramada Plaza Resort in Orlando, I was then asked for a credit card number. Needless I didn't supply the info but I had to hang up as the lady could not recognise the word "NO"

I work in a hotel. I have to take credit cards for incidental accounts every day. The room is free yes... however, if the guest who is staying in the free room destroys it, we have no security on the room. Every hotel is different, and maybe this certain ad he is referring to may have been a hoax... but it is not uncommon for a traveller in a complimentary room to be asked for a credit card.

Lindsey, you may be right, but keep in mind that there is a large volume of complaints against this company for deception in regards to this offer. A good rule of thumb is that if someone wants your credit card number then they plan on charging you for something. Once a company has you credit card number, coupled with deceptively obtained consent to future billing, your financial world is their oyster. Just take a gander at the reports under the "alternative health" or "false Tv advertisements" categories and you'll see how common, and how easy, this type of scam is. A wise consumer will never give out his credit card number for something that is supposed to be free, or for reduced price "trial offers" because he knows that somewhere down the road there will be trouble, i.e. unordered products sent and billed for, or a costly enrollment in a worthless service club.

When you have a free nights stay at a hotel, any hotel, most of them will take a credit card for security on the room. Chances are they were not trying to rip you off.
