I bought a 50" RCA projection TV from Wal-Mart for my sister as a gift on October 9, 2007. In April 2008, it began turning itself on and off. On April 3, an RCA authorized service center in Rockledge, FL came to pick up the TV to fix it. It is now June 17, and it has still not been fixed. RCA's representative said that the part has been ordered, but that it is not available. I have told them that I insist on a refund or a replacement TV. The only response I receive from them is that the part will arrive in 7-10 business days. But this is exactly what they said the last time I called, and the service center has not received the part. In fact, they didn't bother to order the part until June 2, a full two months after it had been taken by the repair shop.

According to a person named Ramir in the parts department of RCA, they have no idea when the bulb will be available.

It is not possible to speak to anyone at RCA/Thomson except service representatives. No managers or supervisors are "available" and it is apparently against their policy to transfer a person to a manager or supervisor. I have sent a copy of the receipt by e-mail as they requested, I have written several e-mails explaining that I believe that 11 weeks is an unreasonable time period to wait for a TV to be fixed that is under warranty. No one replies to e-mails. The drones at RCA appear all to be "programmed" to say the same things over and over again. They say things like: "I am sorry for the inconvenience." "The part should arrive in 7-10 business days." "I cannot transfer you to another representative." They must have a script that they use to talk to people with customer questions and complaints!

From what I see on this site, many people have had similar problems with RCA televisions and other electronics, and perhaps it is time for a class action suit against RCA.

There is one bright spot in all of this. I bought a 2-year extended warranty from Wal-Mart. They will cover this TV beginning October 9, 2008. I suspect that it still won't be fixed by RCA by then.... Maybe Wal-Mart will follow up and come through with a repair or a replacement. I certainly hope so.
