TV's aren't built like they used to be. Additionally, there are some things that make buying the extended warrenty a good thing. If you live in an area of extreame dust, the dust can make things go wrong. If you have a cat or dog that sheds, the hairs will get caught in the back and can make things short out. If you live in an area of very high moisture, combined with the above, it can cause problems. Unless you have a surge protector (not a power strip), a power surge can cause all kinds of problems. Additionally, if air holes are covered/plugged up, the heat can cause serious problems. Some entertainment centers don't allow for proper ventilation. Remember, if you have a TV, DVD, Surround System/Home Theater, Cable Box, etc all in close proximity to each other, they all generate heat. It is a good idea to do the following every six months or so (I do it about every three months): Unplug the TV and let stand for 20 minutes Take the back off of the TV Blow it out with some canned air to get rid of the foriegn matter. Good luck.
