Looking through the Ripoff Report, I see Reliance Home Comfort has a policy of creating fees and pressuring customers to pay or "they will be reported to the credit rating agencies".

My sad story starts with the purchase of a build which had 3 Reliance water heater rental units.  Early in 2009, one of the water heaters burst in a business closed for the season.  Each of next two months water/sewer bills were $300 over the previous month (ran over month-end).  Luckily the local water provider contacted us because of our high water usage or it could have been worse.

Upon contacting Reliance to replace their water heater, we found this unit was 19 years old.  I asked if they have a regular maintenance program to replace older units or do they just wait for them to burst - there was no answer.   Now I'm out $600 for their units malfunction but they wouldn't entertain the idea of assuming any financial responsibility.  I decided to buy water heaters and close my accounts with them.

Reliance has informed me it will cost $200 each account ($600) to close out my accounts. I haven't signed a contract with Reliance but it is their "policy" to charge this fee. Pay, or your credit rating is at risk.  I have faxed and called (leaving messages) for Kim Allen, Supervisor of Customer Service, sent e-mails to the company but no response in over a month.  Now I'm forced to get a lawyer involved which will increase my costs again.

I would suggest anyone thinking of dealing with Reliance Home Comfort, think again.  The water heater I purchased cost $330.  Not far off their closing fee.  I guess "renters be aware" also.
