Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was looking for my son on craigslist at apartment rentals in Western Massachusetts and had emailed a few. I got a reply as follows:

Thank you for your interest in our home for rent.

The property we have available for rent right now is a 1 bedroom 1.5 bath with garage in an amazing area. The home has a full size washer and dryer.

There have not been any pets in the home so there are no smells, stains or odors. The home is pet friendly with no breed restrictions, we do not charge a fee or require a deposit but if your pet damages the property it is up to you to complete all repairs.

To rent our property we require the following:

1. A valid Driver's License or Photo ID
2. The 1st months rent
3. Completed background check for each applicant
4. Rental Agreement (month to month, 6 months or 1 year), I'll bring it to the viewing

You can complete the backgr ound check online using Rental Verified: link.

This is an affordable way for me to screen applicants based on previous rental history and job history. If you have a felony or poor tenant history, I'm flexible and I'll help you out.

This property rents quickly, contact me when you've completed your background check and are ready to schedule a viewing. It is in a .pdf, you can print it and bring to the viewing or email it to me.

What's the best contact number for you? Are you available tomorrow?

I will be available tomorrow, Saturday morning.

The subject line was Re: $525 / 1br - 950ft - Move in ready 1 bed / 1.5 bath (Pittsfield)
I was excited about this great deal in the city my son wanted to be in, so clicked the link and paid $39.95 for the background check for him, and emailed it to [email protected], the person who had contacted me.

Only then I went to the emails I had sent out to people advertizing apartments, and I had emailed no such address and there was no such rental and price in Pittsfield in any of the ads I had responded to. Got me a little worried, so I did an internet search for "propertytrust.biz" and right away got links to ripoffreport.com pages, where there were complaints from people who had gotten pretty much the same exact text in an email, paid for the background check, then never heard from the person who emailed them again.  Below I copied text from a report on ripoffreport.com of a craigslist scam in Seattle Washington listings:

Responded to a Craigslist apartment rental that used the email "@ manzaniaapartments . c0m" or something like that. I asked some specific questions and got this:

We appreciate your interest in our home for rent.

The rental we have that's currently vacant today is a 1 bedroom 1.0 bath with garage in a high demand area. The property has a washer and dryer.

As you can see, it's pretty much the same verbage. When I saw this I called my credit card company, disputed the charge and had them send me a new card - don't want this ripoff company to have my credit card details!
