FALSE ADVERTISING/SCAM
For starters, my husband and I noticed numerous ads online and in the Kansas City Star advertising homes for rent. 90% of these ads were placed by this company, Rent Source, Inc. When you call the number listed, you are advised that to get the address of the property, you must sign up for their service, which costs $90 and gives you access to their database for 6 months.
After paying the $90 and obtaining my first list minutes later, I called the properties listed. The 3 that were shown in my area all told me that they had rented the properties months ago and didn't know why Rent Source had not removed their listings. I then searched some of the ads that had been placed by Rent Source THAT DAY in our local newspaper. Since I had already paid for the service, I called and requested the address. The sales associate told me that they placed ads for properties that did not even exist for "advertising purposes." When I inquired if that was legal, she said, "I don't know" and hung up on me!
I filed a complaint with my bank, who in turn disputed the charge with Visa. Three months later, I am advised that my bank lost the dispute, and the $90 would again be deducted from my bank account. However, I paid for a 6 month service and when I made the dispute with my bank THE DAY I SIGNED UP FOR THE SERVICE, Rent Source blocked my login information, so I couldn't have used the service anyway! I was ripped off, plain and simple, and feel certain many others have been as well.
I am getting ready to file a complaint with the Kansas Attorney General as well as the BBB, which I am certain will do no good, other than hopefully save someone else from making the same mistake I did.
