We were contacted two years in a row from Matthew Fitzpatrick to inquire about our interest to sell our timeshare property located in Barrie, Ontario.

Initially (year one) we were not interested, however, reconsidered upon the second call from this man. I had advised him that we would be interested if the price was right, otherwise we would keep it for now. He arranged for his partner, Penny Eddy to contact us and provide us with the current resale value of our resort.

Penny contacted me and informed me that they work for big corporations looking to buy property as a tax write-off and that they have a particular interest in out type of resort which is a 2 bedroom, lock-off style. This particular type of resort is hard to find now as many have gone to points systems. she provided us a quotation of a price that was 'too hard to believe'. she then informed us of the $1500. US marketing fee that is charged upfront if we wanted to proceed with them. this fee was to cover advertising, promotion etc. she assured us that we would have something in writing faxed to us that if our property did not sell within 6 months, we could get refunded the full amount.

we were not comfortable with this, so asked for time to research the company. she provided us a 'Brooks and Dunn' number and was to call us the next day. we searched this website, however, in order to get any information we would have to pay $200 US. we tried to find them on the better business bureau and unfortunately, must have made an error in our search.

after a busy day of work, we got a call from Penny again and we decided that we would proceed.

we received a fax, with the written guarantee and were advised our property would sell in Dec. 2006.

well, that has now passed, we are 3 months into the deal and decided we would submit for a refund. after several attempts to call the company and leaving messages, there is no response.

additionally, we have now found them on the BBB and there are mutiple complaints (19), most of which are for refunds and not resolved listed. a recent posting on the BBB shows that their mail has been marked return to sender with no forwarding address.

searching the web for Pennie Eddy pulls up one search result with multiple addressed. Matthew Fitzpatrick has multiple search results and we will investigate this further.

We had the same thing happen to us with a different company. We went through the following company: Resort Equity Marketing 801 West SR 436 Suite 2151 Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714 Phone: 1-800-234-1345 Fax: 1-407-682-3142 http://www.resortequitymarketing.com We got a call about our timeshare at Harborside Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Since we have 2 timeshares we thought it would be cool to sell this one and keep the other. We got the same spiel about they deal with corporate companies, etc.. I gave them my complete info in it's entirety about the property, week, location at the resort.... We could never find it. Then I found one that might have been it but the info was just a tad bit off. I tried calling them, emailing them over and over again. Not one return phone call or response in the email. We didn't pay what you did... we paid $695 for absolutely nothing. The next time I checked 3 weeks later what I thought could be ours was not there and never has been since. All these companies really do is put up a website and you pay for the listing which is just to advertise it on their page. Major Rip Off. I have over 200 webpages with my own biz. I could have put that up myself for free as a webmaster. My husband and I chalked it up to experience and now we no longer give any credit card or info over the phone ever! I spoke to someone at our other timeshare that I love and told them about what happened. He said you should NEVER pay anyone to sell your timeshare. He said go through someone that deals with it in Real Estate. He basically told me that they just lie to you to get you in. After checking their website I found this: "Resort Equity Marketing cannot and does not appraise the value or rental price of your timeshare property. The sales or rental price of your property has been established by you, the owner, and Resort Equity Marketing has made no representations as to the sales/rental price that you may receive." In actuality they did set the price, not me. They also state: "Because we are an advertising company, and are not involved in the sale/rental, or the negotiation for sale/rental, we are unable to provide you with statistics of the percentage of sales/rentals as a result of our advertising program." Folks, that's all they are... they advertise on their net, nothing more... Watch out for these type companies and never pay to advertise your time share with these companies. It IS a rip-off.
