Ok, first by your own admission, you parked somewhere you knew you shouldn't. You got towed..yes, unfortunate for you, but that's life. When you don't heed posted warnings, you run the risk of being towed.
It matters not HOW much time you spend on someone else's private property. 5 mins, 20 mins, 2 hours....who cares. You parked the car, the tow company didn't. Why throw the blame to them when it's FULLY yours?
The $275 to re-claim your vehicle sounds reasonable and fair, considering this was in the middle of the night, after normal business hours (M-F). Even we charge an after hours fee for anything on the weekends or after 5pm M-F.
Do you deserve your money back? No, you don't. You broke the rules, you payed the price.
Lesson? If the sign says you can't park there, DON'T!

I do not agree with predatory towing; however, we should all be extremely careful to park as wisely as we can - if there's even a doubt about whether or not we should park somewhere, DON'T PARK THERE! Retriever Towing is, after all, the company that was callous enough to try to tow a cop car from the scene of a domestic dispute in Gresham...
