My guest and I entered Retso Fitness ready to a complete a steady workout. Upon entering, we were treated like thugs by the manager of the location, Russell. When asked why my guest couldnt move forward, this Russell character started with his insults "Are YOU PEOPLE retarded? You arent entitled to guests ", as he carried on with his disgusting behavior. My guest and I conducted ourselves in a rather mild and levelheaded manner considering the racist and hostile treatment we received at the hands of the owner, RUSSELL. The language in which the agreement for my membership was written is quite ambiguous as it relates to the guest policy. Furthermore, the sales rep who sold me my package explicitly stated the membership included, at no additional expense, 1 accompanying guest per day.

This was his primary selling point prior to me signing the contract, thus the deal was closed under false pretenses - hinged upon a verbal commitment made by your employee. When I calmly attempted to explain this to Russell on the day in question, he immediately became irate - YELLING RACIALLY CODED LANGUAGE before THREATENING TO CALL THE POLICE . Shocked, offended, and downright disturbed at the treatment we were receiving, I allowed Russell to continue his verbal assault and afterwards welcomed him to have the authorities come to the property to hopefully mediate a situation that unnecessarily escalated as a result of his lack of professionalism and temper. There was never any attempt on Russell's behalf to investigate or speak with the sales associate who sold me the membership, which would have effectively resolved the issue. Instead of approaching this situation intelligently, Russell belligerently insulted me and my guest - unprovoked. I wasn't at all surprised that the officer who responded to the call spoke of Russell with disgruntled familiarity.

Apparently, his precinct regularly receives calls from Russell, only to arrive at the gym to find that HE WAS THE AGRESSOR in every scenario. He even mentioned a recent incident where RUSSELL PHYSICALLY ASSULTED SOMEONE AT THE GYM . My encounter with RussRussell is par for course, I see. THE OFFICERS OFFERED THEIR SINCEREST APOLOGIES to my guest and I before they left the premises and said that as a paying member of the gym, In have every right to attend the gym. The fact still remains that an employee at Russells property sold me this membership under false terms, and services promised upon buying this package are not being upheld. Intentionally misrepresenting conditions of a policy to bait consumers into buying Russells services implicates crooked business dealings. Which is why I have also filed a separate complaint with the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs. The BBB needs to assign a grade to his corrupt operation that reflects his unethical practices. CONSUMERS BEWARE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS!
