over this summer we had heavy rain, so much rain that sewers in this town could not keep up and neither could the sump pumps. some homes got it more that others. our back yard and garage was two feet under water.

in our basment we have half of it as utility and storage and the other half is a finished family room,or was. luckly we were home when this all happened and we worked like crazy to shop vac the water as it was comeing in through the sump pump, but it was not enough, the water made its way into our carpeted family room but at least we dint lose our two telivisions, and computer, we realy busted our asses saveing our things.

we tryed to save the carpet by cleaning it but after a few days the smell was unbarable and we had to rip it up. we found where even more water came in through the foundation.

when we called our insurance to make a clam they said we may not get anything that we did not have the proper coverage.(sump pump coverage)now why wouldnt we have this when we have a sump pump?

i talked to other people who had damage and the same insurance companie as us, and get this, they had way way way less water come in to there home and got the max amount of $5,000 differant agent of course who was looking out for the customers best interest. but no not my agent he blams us and says we didnt want this coverage, and that is a big fat lie. we were not informed at the time we purchesed our home of things like that, were just 24 and 25 new to home owners insurance and were told its all taken care of.

now our washer resently went out and so did the dryer, hummm could it have anything to do with that day when they sat in at least 3 inches of water for about three hours? and do you think we were able to aford new carpet for our family room? and who knows what other damage there still might be in the walls or how about my garage that had so much water in it that thing were flooting around out into the yard.

we were never asked about induvidual coverages as rick might think, he knew the home had a sump pump so why were we not given the proper coverage?

If you feel that your insurance agent was aware of the need for that coverage, and failed to quote it for you, you can sue him, or you can call your State's department of insurance to file a claim. He should have an Errors & Omissions Insurance policy that would respond. Get on the web and contact your State Department of Insurance right away!
