I returned a bottle of store brand vitamins without a receipt for an even exchange or credit toward a higher priced item. I was asked to swipe my ID and was told I could only get a $2+cents credit.  I paid $6.99 plus tax for the item and was exchanging it for an item costing $11 and would pay the difference but was told because of my ID that's all the credit I could get.  The cashier called an assistant and she told me because I did not have a receipt I could not get full credit for the item.

Rite Aid handled it exactly by store policy. When a customer wants to return something and they do not have a receipt, they only receive a store credit for the last sale price of the item, which was 2 dollars and some cents. Next time keep your receipt.
