Phil, Kudos to you for not being bullied into getting their car on their terms. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with me. I, too, specifically told the salesperson at Rockenbach I did not want to go over $250 for my monthly car payments. He said I would then need to make a substantial down payment, which (stupid me) I did. I put $3500 down, thinking that would definitely make my monthly car payments lower. After making me play the waiting game (I went in around 3pm and wasn't able to leave until around 9pm!), I was ready to go home and sign/initial whatever was necessary for me to get the car. That's when I found out my monthly car payments would be $307 and discovered that the interest rate was 17.95%. When I tried to argue, comments were made about my "credit score", and I was made to feel like it was my fault I could not get a decent rate to make my car payments lower. I felt so helpless and resigned at the situation I was in that I signed the papers, got in the car, and drove away, vowing to never ever set foot in that place again. Next time, I will remember that it is okay to refuse to sign and reject offers that is not on my terms, and that I shouldn't feel that I was 'inconveniencing' the carsalesperson.

Phil: You did a fantastic thing...you walked out! Connsider how many other people would have played the role of doormat and given in! But I do want to caution you and remind you they did you a fantastic favor! Don't ever get into a FLEECE! Did they tell you about all the phoney-baloney fees and surcharges? Did they tell you about higher insurance premiums in a FLEECE? Did they tell you about returning the car with brand new tires at the end of the FLEECE? Did they tell you about how dealers often use the wear and tear clause to grossly exaggerate W/T and charge you more money? When that happens, do they really repair all those things or just pocket your money and send the car to the auction? Did they tell you about the phoney-baloney fee at the end of the FLEECE? Phil, they did you a favor which gives you a chance to think this thru. No reputable financial advisor approves of getting into a CAR FLEECE. No matter how great they make it sound and no matter how much they try to flatter you by telling you how smart you are...it is STILL a CAR FLEECE! Buy the car! Don't get FLEECED!
