This company is simply a muti-level marketing SCHEME. They will tell you its a entry level marketing job but it is door to door selling. On the second interview they will tell you that you are going to see presentation for SIX HOURS and dress business professional, what you are really doing is walking around neighborhoods knocking on doors trying to sell cable products, not getting paid. Its a job that any high school drop out could do, dont be fooled. Strait comission, no benefits, you will be lucky if you can make a few hundred dollars a week on your gas expense.

I worked at Rocky Top for a couple of months earlier this year. While this job is not for everyone, it is most certainly not a scam. Yes, you are a door-to-door salesman. Yes, it is commission based. Yes, the days are long....but it's a legitimate job.

The problem is that most people that are against the company are people that couldn't cut it. Going chronologically, latest first, I have some things to say.

As to "As soon as you are not working there, they are no longer your friends. When you are not around, they will talk about you.": That's a bit misguided. Maybe you just weren't liked all that much. I know I ran into a former co-worker at my new job and he invited me to play some basketball with them. I'm in contact with a good few of them, still.

As for the owner, Bob, he's actually pretty caring. If you look like you don't care about the job, then there's a chance he won't really care about you...but if you give a darn, he'll invest in you.

You don't get fired for saying something negative about the company, you get fired for being very negative overall. That was my experience. I hated the job, and it was reflected through my attitude...I was a detriment to the work environment. Bob sat me down and explained this to me. He gave me a choice as to whether or not I wanted to stay. I already knew that the job wasn't for me, so I, naturally, left. Part of the business is trying to get through all the crappy days and not let them affect the next day. I couldn't do that.

Everyone complaining about the money...I was able to make between $500-$800 a week over my first month. You only do as well as you let yourself do in this business. I was a good salesman...many customers said that to my face directly. Heck, I'm in a different sales-based job now. The people that don't make it think that this job is only for dropouts or burnouts, so they get arrogant, do it their own way, and fail. Hard.

I also couldn't drive and got a ride out to the territories. Before you ask, I used Knoxville's bus system to get to work until I figured out which co-workers were close enough to pick me up.

This job isn't for everybody. It wasn't for me...however, it's not a scam. The money comes from the company you're selling for. The fact that somebody couldn't hack it is not justification to call this place a scheme.

F*** Rocky Top Marketing Group. They are all disgusting pigs that don't really care about you. As soon as you are not working there, they are no longer your friends. When you are not around, they will talk about you. They lie, cheat, and manipulate to get what they want. The owner is a pig. He only cares about you if you are doing well in the field and making him money. In actuality he only made about $40K in 2011 but everyone there will tell you he makes a six figure salary. It is such BS!!

the whole thing is a huge scam... they'll literally hire anyone to come work there to do door to door sales and make the owner ) money. promises of wealth and success are common yet noone makes it there longer than 5 months... to get promoted I have to get other ppl to do door sales and when they quit u are right back where u started... you spend your whole day there from 9 to 10 everyday mon thru Saturday so u only hang out with ppl who are doing the same thing... and as soon as u leave the business al the ppl who u called friends are imediately dissinterested in hanging out bc the owners don't permit it. One negative comment out loud about the business and u could lose your job, bc no one that is recently in the business is supposed to know al the negatives about it. Turn over is extremely high bc the owners objective is to get lots of ppl doing sales in order to reach his goals.. so you will be door knocking for a loooooong time.

Rocky Top Marketing Group lures people in  with well written ads that make working there sound good. They make it seem like you are entering their "Manager Training Program," and will one day become a manager. However, the only way you can become a manager is if you, some day, have the money to open up a new location in another city and trick other people into selling cable for you. I believe RTMG is some kind of pyramid scheme, they move from city to city selling cable until they have saturated the market. While you work there you work off 100% commission and you will be lucky to even make minimum wage. The only reason I know this was that I was stupid enough to go for an interview. I will never make that mistake again, it was terrible! I just feel like I should warn other people so they will not make the mistake I did. Also, I can about guarantee that the positive rebuttals on this site are written by RTMG. They are extremely manipulative! Do not fall for their tricks!

I have always wanted a job in advertising, but when I graduated from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I knew it was a highly competitive industry for people with no experience. Rocky Top Marketing Group was my first real job out of college, and I tell you, no other classroom; job; seminar; or learning environment would have ever given me the amount of professional, useable knowledge that I got at Rocky Top Marketing Group. I learned the value of maintaining a positive attitude, how to close a sale, and how to work hard and coach others. And, yes, these skills are used in the real-world. With the skills that I learned at RTMG I was able to land my dream job. No...My relationship with RTMG didn't turn into Management, but I did get a job in advertising at The Johnson Group in Chattanooga - which is where I always wanted to work through college. Honestly, had I not taken the job at Rocky Top, I would have never been prepared for my dream job. Any successful person will tell you that people skills are the most valuable asset to have in any business, and that is exactly what I was able to master by working with Bob and some of the other guys there. Sure, doing sales everyday can get tough, but it made me a more resilient, tough-minded individual ready to take on the advertising world. If you want a job where you sit on your butt all day, and earn enough to make ends meet for the rest of your life, RTMG is not for you. But, if you want a job that requires hard work and a student mentality with the payoff of UNLIMITED money-making and advancement opportunities, work here. Because, you will get exactly what you put into it. It changed my life for the better, and that is not an exaggeration, that is fact.

After reading you rebuttal I found it interesting that you said " My husband can't drive, and works here!".

Does that mean you you currently work for the company?

I did that too

I did that as well, but I believe the company had a different name at the time. They had an office in the building behind Papa John's. The "interview" was 8 hours because we had to go door to door around east Tennessee. We started out driving down by Cleveland, TN and stopped at a Burger King bathroom so that guys could change out of their suits and into their Bell South uniforms. Then when we got back to the office everyone went into the bathroom to change back into their suits. It was ridiculous and the way the manager described everything it was a pyramid scheme.

My husband recently started working for this company. Yes it is "door to door" sales to start, but one of the best career opportunities out there! It is in no way a scam or scheme! He is already making great money, and within a matter of days, looking at a promotion. As far as the gas, yes you do have to drive, if you can, if not you can ride out to the feild with someone else! My husband can't drive, and works here! Sounds like someone doesn't want a job bad enough to put in the effort of getting off their lazy butt and working!
