Yes it is true this Roctel is a total rip off.
I have also tried to get it removed from my phone bill.
My first contact with this "RocTel" was via e-mail. Where I stated to them that I did not request this service and I did not want it. After a week with no response I called the toll free number. Where I was told that someone in my home, other than myself, ordered the service. I know this is not true, for several reasons. They said they would take it off my phone bill and refund me the money.
They charged me double for it on my bill one month, then it was not on there the month after but it was on there again this month.
Now The regular phone number I had for them 2014291100 is disconnected, the web site will not come up any more!
So what is a consumer to do? I spoke with my phone company. They said they couldn't do anything to refund my money but they can put a block on service where no third party can bill directly to my phone bill without my phone company obtaining permission from me. This was supposed to be done 3 years ago when an outside long distance company tried to pull a fast one on me. So its obvious it didn't work then lets see if it does now.
I know that RocTel obtained this phone number through other websites. The use the "free" such and such deals as well as other sweepstakes sites and stuff like that. I know this because I have seen the ads. WHEN YOU SEE ADDS LIKE THIS ON A WEBSITE MAKE SURE THE YES OR ORDER BOXES ARE NOT CHECKED BEFOR YOU HIT SUBMIT OR CONTINUE!!
I was on a site here recently and noticed that some of the boxes were already checked so if you were to not pay attention and just scroll down and hit submit or continue (like most of us do) then Bam!!! According to them you have agreed to the service.
Also before giving ANY personal information out make sure it's legit. Before now all I worried about was SS# and credit card # . Now that's not the case and the fact that all some one needs is your name and the state you live in to get your phone number it makes you feel almost hopeless. How can we get our money back and be protected from things such as this with out having to pay more?!!

ROCTEL using non working numbers to harass!

Yes the 201 area code number that you provided is no longer working! My daughter has a friend who is a police officer and he checked it and it is a non working number. I have contacted the FTC, FCC and the NJ Attorney Generals Office! It would be advisable that you and everyone else who has been ripped off by ROCTEL do the same.
