Search on Royal British Lotto, Zenith Financial or just check the lottery catergory here. You will find thousands of reports with stories just like yours. So many of those people got dollar signs in their eyes and went and deposited those scam checks and lost thousands. The bank will hold YOU responsible for the money. YOU will have to pay it back after you withdraw the money and western union it. As the previous poster pointed out, you may find yourself arrested for fraud. OBVIOUSLY, this is all a fraud. Pamela Anderson? LOL! Royal British Lotto? Haven't you asked yourself when did you enter into a British or Canadian lottery? Oh and don't be like a like of people here who said "well, I called the number on the letter and they said the check is good and to deposit it". DUHHH! Of course they are going to tell you its a good check. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY!

But she doesn't live in Alberta handing out money to Americans. To satisfy yourself, try to find Royal British Lottery's official website. If you phone them, they will want you to wire some of that check back to them to pay for taxes, fees, or processing. Why would a lottery company need to use Western Union? Don't they have the prize money in, oh, a bank account? Once you hand cash to Western Union, it is gone. You can not get it back. Even if you could find the person who asked you to send it, you are not going to be able to prove that they picked it up. Never use Western Union for anything other than borrowing the restroom. Taxes? When a person wins a foreign lottery, they may be subject to witholding tax. They aren't paid the money and are expected to remit it to the foreign government. If you win locally, your gov't expects you to remit whatever taxes may be due when you file a return. Still not convinced? Read the letter again. I'll wager that it could use a spell-check. Also notice that the check isn't from the Royal British Lottery. (It's probably a forged / stolen check from a legitimate company.) Why would the lottery send your money to some construction company and not to you? Here's what happens: You deposit the check. Your bank will verify that the account on the check is real. It is. When the funds are made available to you, "Pamela Anderson" or "Clint Eastwood" or someone with a believable name will have you Western Union some of the money. Then when the check hits the bank of the account holder, it will be returned as fraudulent. The money will come out of your account. You're left with a negative balance. Some victims have even been charged with passing a stolen / forged check. Please don't cash the check. Take it to your bank if you really want to, but talk to your manager ,not a teller, and don't put it in an ATM. Spend none of it. Don't contact Pamela. If this were legit, the check would clear and the lottery would be contacting you again to make sure that you get the winnings and arrange for publicity photos so they can sell more tickets. There's no lottery. There's no winnings. There's no Pamela Anderson in Alberta. (She's from BC originally.)
