Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.  We knew we didn’t want to do conventional chemotherapy and radiation.  We heard good things about the clinics in Mexico and what they were able to offer.  A relative of a friend of ours told us of a clinic in Tijuana, Mexico called Rubio Cancer Center where he had received treatment for a certain cancer and was now living a active and healthy life. Having a recommendation means a lot when you’re thinking of doing cancer treatment in Mexico.

We called their patient advocate, Carolyn Gross.  When you’re researching places to treat your mother who is very ill with cancer, your judgment might be a little off, as was mine.  Looking back, I should have seen the signs.  Carolyn Gross comes off as very caring, throwing out taglines like, “when there’s hope, there’s healing.”  She talked and talked, but it was mostly about their philosophy rather than their procedures and treatments.  We would ask her a question, but the answers in a practical sense seemed vague. However, she did say that for $6,500.00 a week we will throw everything we’ve got at that cancer. We were desperate, my mom was in a lot of pain and we needed to get her help right away.

The most important question we had asked Carolyn was whether or not they would follow the results of scientifically advanced test we had undergone previously called the RGCC test. This was critical for us. They had spent a lot of time and money already acquiring the results of this test, because it insured my mom from taking chemo drugs that were not effective on my her particular cancer. She answered,  ”yes we do”. That sealed it for us in deciding to come, knowing they were aware and practicing the results of the RGCC test. But, to top it off we had a recommendation.

We flew her and my dad out to San Diego where they were picked up by a shuttle and taken to the clinic.  The pictures they have up on their website of the clinic are some what of a distortion.   First of all, The facility is in a very congested industrial part of Tijuana.  Secondly, these pictures were obviously photoshopped as you can see from the gallery.

Upon receiving a tour of the clinic they then became aware just how small it really was. This however, did not present a problem for my mom and dad, since they had lived in other countries and had become accustom to these things.

The nurses were very sweet and caring even though there was a language barrier.

Another thing that was concerning is that the food was not organic…not at all.  In fact, one morning, they served my mom waffles!  If you know anything about a cancer diet…you should be avoiding all white flour and sugar.

They saw Dr. Rubio only a handful of times.  He seemed like a very nice man.  But my parents never got a clear understanding of the treatment they would be receiving.   There wasn’t good communication.  It all seemed very unorganized.

The final straw…one night is their room, a nurse comes in and starts setting up an IV bag.  My dad noticed it was a different color than the usual clear liquid she had been receiving.  He asked what it was, and the nurse said, “chemo.”  They hadn’t talked to the doctor about it at all.  Usually when you start a treatment, a doctor will tell you about it, side effects, a plan, etc.  My dad asked to speak with the doctor.  There was a night duty doctor that didn’t seem to really know what was going on either.  It was becoming a theme at the clinic that you never really knew what was going on.  Everything was vague and unclear.  We later found out that the chemo drug Dr. Rubio was administering wasn’t the chemo drug that the RGCC test had recommended.  When we later asked about it, Carolyn Gross said that Dr. Rubio was doing his own plan.  Another example of how we felt in the dark about what our health plan was.

It was really hard for my dad, but he knew he had to get my mom out of there.  She had already been through so much.  They found a wonderful treatment center called Sanoviv Medical Institute.  I’ll tell you about it later, but it was like going from hell to heaven.

My parents were only at Dr. Rubio’s Cancer Center for only about 4 days.  They paid them $6,500 for the week.  My dad called Carolyn Gross and asked for a small refund for the time they weren’t there.  Carolyn seemed very aloof and unsympathetic.  Before we came to the clinic, she told us that it was $6,500 a week, and that it would cover everything.  Now she told my dad that he now owed an extra $5,200 dollars on top of that.  ($2000 for each ozone treatment and $1200 for the insertion of a catheter.)  Again, nothing was ever made clear to us.  You would think that someone would tell you if you’re doing a treatment that is going to cost you five thousand dollars extra, on top of the already six thousand we were spending.

I’m trying to be level headed as a write this and to just state the facts, so you can make your best judgement.  I know some people have had success at Dr. Rubio’s but that wasn’t our story.

I want to advise anyone thinking about going to Dr. Rubio’s Cancer Center to really look at all your options.  If you sense any red flags at all, or anything that doesn’t seem right…go with your instincts.  Make sure everything is clear and in writing.  There are really amazing clinics in Mexico that practice amazing integrative and alternative treatments…but I don’t think Dr. Rubio’s Cancer Center is the best option.

Every day is a MIRACLE!

I am so grateful for Carolyn Gross, Dr.Rubio, and the staff at Rubio Cancer Clinic.  Carolyn Gross, the Patient Care Advocate has the ability to make someone feel that they are the most important person in the world, which is what she did for my husband when he called over 4 years ago regarding my health.  Carolyn gave her full attention to my needs and made me feel that I could beat this. After reading her book, Treatable and Beatable, it gave me even more hope for the future.

Dr. Rubio and the Rubio Cancer Clinic saved my life.  My diagnosis was grim, but after meeting with Dr. Rubio the first day, I was confident in his confidence that I would beat this!  The staff at the clinic were so helpful and friendly and became my friends.  They made you feel that you were the only one in the whole clinic.  Dr. Rubio and his staff make every effort to explain what is happening with each procedure.

I know that one of the biggest complaints is the money and I do admit that it was an issue at first but how much is your life really worth?  How many people spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on hospitals with little if any results!  Many people would not think of purchasing a new car and spending the money for it, but have a hard time with the treatment costs.  Makes little sense to me.

I went down there with the idea that I was an expert on food.  Many of the patients have specific needs and the kitchen staff does everything to ensure those needs are met.  I loved the waffles (gluten free by the way) and so did my husband who visited me on several occasions.  I did not check myself in as a food critic but as a patient.

There was never a doubt in my mind that we made the right decision to go to this clinic.  We looked at this online and when I got there I was not disappointed.  I was not at all put off by the area that the clinic was located in.  I always felt safe.  I was really glad that it was small because I felt like I would receive the best care and I did.  Yes, the internet is slow but hey, its slow in the states sometimes too. We travel frequently to other countries and find that same thing.

Carolyn Gross has been there every step of the way and has been a real mentor to me.  I couldn’t have done it without her love and support.  I do not hesitate one minute to refer any one suffering from a horrible diagnosis with little hope of survival to Carolyn Gross and the Rubio Cancer Clinic.

It will be a year in August that I danced with my son at his wedding and I know that it would not have been possible without this wonderful clinic. You see for me, Every day is a MIRACLE!

Great success at the Rubio Cancer Center

Its a great honor to share our wonderful success at the Rubio Cancer Center. I was told by traditional doctors in the Seattle area that there was little that could be done; cancer had spread to bones in my skull, spine, ribs, hips, legs, and feet. I had a PSA of 500. A friend who is now cancer free, shared her success story at the Rubio Cancer Center. And with the help of Carolyn Gross, we checked into the Center within 10 days. In my first consultation with Dr Rubio he explained that he'd treated over 1600 patients like me. He told me not to worry and detailed the treatments – both traditional and naturopathic - that would be performed. And then answered a host of my questions.

Within three weeks I was completely out of pain. By 8 weeks I felt 20 years younger and had so much energy (and joy), I could hardly believe it. I felt more like I was in a health spa than a traditional 'cancer center.' I was so amazed by the results that I flew my son down; he'd been a great athlete, lettering in three sports in high school ...until a bout with mononucleosis reduced him to chronic fatigue. For three years! Within three weeks at the Center he got his life back. And he's still going strong two years later (just graduated from Washington State University and has been accepted into one of the top culinary schools in the nation!).

Over the course of the past two years I've returned many times to the Center for regular checkups and have worked with Dr Rubio to not only keep my cancer scores dropping (I'm approaching zero!), but he's also helped me address and solve a number of other health issues that have no doubt been related to the cancer. His expertise and experience in both traditional and naturopathic medicine is remarkable. And invaluable!

We've come to not only love Dr Rubio - but the entire staff of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, drivers, housekeepers and on and on. They are competent. Compassionate. And hard working. Sounds strange but we actually like returning; it's like our second home. And about the food, my wife (a certified Nutritional Therapist) and I have noticed over the years that many people with chronic health conditions have read 'something' about nutrition and consider themselves authorities. Its not wrong, but its nearly impossible to make them all happy. Regardless, the kitchen staff keep most of us standing in line before meals are served. It's remarkable how many they do make happy! [Notes concerning the remark about “waffles” in the post: the waffles are gluten free. There are always options of other things to eat. Not everyone at the center has cancer or a restricted diet. And regardless, the waffles disappear fast!]

My situation was hopeless two years ago. But today, I'm still pain free, nearly cancer free, working out regularly. And have the longest blond hair I've ever had ...I keep it as a testimony to the difference between traditional treatments and the Rubio Cancer Center :).

I'm not sure what happened to the person in this post and while no one can guarantee an outcome, I feel confident that had they given Dr Rubio and his team longer than just four days, they too may have had a great story to share. I wish them the best, but I also continue to pray for God's protection and blessing over Dr Rubio and his great team And I pray that more and more may find their way to Rubio Cancer Center.

Rubio's Cancer Center in Tijuana, Mexico, is the place where my grandma, diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the liver is being treated.

My family and I thought the worst when different doctors that practice the traditional medicine told us, that there was nothing left to do.. that we had to take her home so she could spend her last moments there.. They gave her about 2 months of life..

Thankfully Dr. Rubio started treating my grandma's cancer right away, after an uncle that has contact with Dr. Rubio recommended the clinic. Dr. Rubio told us that she would get better, and that he was going to do his best to keep her healthy.

My grandma started treatment on April 2nd of 2014, and after only 2 months the tumor in the liver has been reduced 50%. She has more energy now, she isn't in pain, her sense of humor is better, and she feels great. She will continue with the treatment until the doctor decides it's time to go home and just go to the clinic every other day a month..

My family and I are very happy with these good news.

The clinic may be expensive to some, but I can honestly say that it is worth it! They only get healthy, organic food, receive the best treatment, the chemos and radiations are about 10% of what they traditional medicine do.

The nurses and everyone who works there are very nice and caring.

So I would recommend this clinic 100% to anyone who needs a miracle. Because I honestly can say that this place is amazing!

Former Patient of Rubio Clinic, my experience

As a former patient of the Cinic more than 2 years ago I will provide information on my experience with the Clinic, Dr Rubio, The Patient Advocate Carolyn and the entire staff in the clinic. First, I was diagnosed with Level 4 Prostate Cancer (later I learned that it had metastatasized), I decided to go to The Rubio Clinic after speaking with a former patient (who had dealt with Level 4 cervical cancer and several conversations with the Patient Advocate Carolyn (before and after my records had been reviewed by Dr Rubio). I formed a bond of trust and confident communication with Patient Advocate Carolyn and continue to have some contact and communication with her, I recommend the clinic to people I know who have received a cancer diagnosis as well as other "incurable" situations.

The Clinic is a unique facility in that it is very clean and well maintained. My room was more than I expected vs the photos in the brochure. My purpose in going there was to get away from all the distractions and focus on my Healing. The Patient Advocate met me and another new patient with the van driver when I arrived in San Diego, we all rode down to the Clinic together, she also would visit with me when she would be in the clinic for a few hours on return trips with new patients that she was escorting to the Clinic.

For or me mealtime was enjoyable, I was hungry and ready to eat, I knew going in that my lifestyle had to change, that my old way of eating had to be altered. I enjoyed mealtime because we were all gathered in one place together. A time to talk and to encourage each other.

The Rubio Cancer Center holds a Special Place in my Heart. Everyone on Staff works to provide a pleasant Healing atmosphere. The Patient Advocate is a former patient who to me is an excellent communicator who believes in the mission of the clinic based upon her own personal experience as a patient.

Today I am convinced that I followed the "Leading" of The Holy Spirit to the place for Healing that was right for me and would go again without hesitation. Thank you Dr Rubio, Patient Advocate Carolyn and ALL the Wonderful, Caring Staff at The Rubio Cancer Clinic for being a part of my Healing !

I created this page to notify the public about Rubio Cancer Center so you can make the best decision regarding your treatment at an alternative cancer center in Mexico.

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.  We knew we didn’t want to do conventional chemotherapy and radiation.  We heard good things about the clinics in Mexico and what they were able to offer.  A relative of a friend of ours told us of a clinic in Tijuana, Mexico called Rubio Cancer Center where he had received treatment for a certain  fourth stage cancer and was now living a active and healthy life. Having a recommendation means a lot when you’re thinking of doing cancer treatment in Mexico.

We called their patient advocate, Carolyn Gross. When you’re researching places to treat your mother who is very ill with cancer, your ability to remain objective and not be moved by feelings is weakened, as was mine. My dad also confessed that Carolyn had an easy time convincing them to come. He, being as desperate as he was for mom to get help, wanted things to be better than he perceived them to be.  Looking back, I should have seen the signs.  She did most of the talking while I was trying to ask questions. A lot of what she said was about their philosophy rather than their procedures and treatments.  We would ask her a question, but the answers in a practical sense seemed vague. However, she did say that for $6,500.00 a week we will throw everything we’ve got at the cancer.

Secondly, these pictures were obviously photoshopped.

Upon receiving a tour of the clinic they then became aware just how small it really was. This however, did not present a problem for my mom and dad, since they had lived in other countries and had become accustom to these things.

The nurses there were very sweet and caring, although didn’t speak very good English.

One of the other things that was bothersome was their internet wifi was only on part of the time. When being in a foreign country you rely almost completely on emails to communicate to loved ones.

Being very conscientious about their diet, my parents asked Carolyn Gross if the food served at the center was organic. She said that organic food was difficult to find in Mexico, but that the produce in Mexico was not sprayed like in the states and that all their meals were prepared in a health conscious way. But in fact, a lot of the food was processed and had white flour and sugar in their ingredients. If you know anything about a cancer diet…you should be avoiding all white flour and sugar.

They saw Dr. Rubio only a handful of times.  He seemed like a nice man.  But my parents never got a clear idea as to his plan or received a written procedure of the treatments they would undergo.   There wasn’t good communication at all, very unorganized. They did however stress their desire that he would follow the RGCC test. This he affirmed.

The turning point for them was on the fourth night. A nurse comes in and puts an iv bag up.  My dad noticed it was a different color than the other liquid she had been receiving.  He asked what it was, and the nurse said, “chemo.”  By this time there still had been no discussion with Dr Rubio about the starting up of Chemo treatment.  Usually when you start a treatment, a doctor will tell you about it: side effects, a plan, and in their case, the assurance from the doctor that things were going the way they had discussed, however vague. Besides this, we were in the process of low dose radiation treatments that we assumed were not yet finished.

My dad asked to speak with the night doctor. The doctor on duty  was an amiable man, but had little authority and really didn’t know what was going on. My parents asked him not to start the treatment until they had talked with Dr Rubio. They asked that doctor to have Dr Rubio contact them as soon as possible. My dad also found out the name of the chemo drug they were going to use that night. The next morning they asked again to talk with Dr Rubio and that it was urgent. All that day there was no response from Dr Rubio or his staff after repeated attempts to contact him.

By this time my parents were feeling nervous and insecure about their care.  They weren’t getting any response from Dr. Rubio and they were loosing trust. At this point my dad went on a gut feeling that it was time to leave.  It was really hard for my dad, but he knew he had to get my mom out of there.  She had already been through so much.  They found a  treatment center in Mexico that turned out to be wonderful and she is responding very well to the treatments.

One of the first things my dad said when talking with our doctor at the new clinic, was to ask him whether or not the Chemo drug; Adriamycin that Dr Rubio was going to use,  was even recommended by the RGCC test. The doctor said no, it was not recommended.

My parents were only at Dr. Rubio’s Cancer Center for only about 4 days.  They paid them $6,500 for the week.  My dad went back to Rubio Cancer Center and asked for a refund of half the amount; telling the staff person the story of coming to Rubio’s on the false pretense that they would follow the RGCC test. The staff person seemed aloof and unsympathetic. She then went on to tell my dad that he now owed an extra $5,200 dollars on top of that.  ($2000 for each ozone treatment and $1200 for the insertion of a catheter.)  My dad protested that nothing was said to them about any extra charges before they were given. You would think that someone would tell you if you’re receiving a treatment that is going to cost you five thousand dollars extra, on top of the already six thousand we were spending. After all Carolyn Gross had said to them that for 6500.00 a week we will throw everything at it.

My dad later tried to call the patient advocate, Carolyn Gross. She later called back, but was not cooperative.

After this, he tried repeatedly to call Dr Rubio at the Center, but the receptionist would say that he wasn’t there. He asked many times for him to call back, but he never did. Finally, my dad gave up trying to resolve the matter.
