We purchased Medicare Part D insurance for my dad in Dec 2007 to start Jan 2008. By the end of Feb we received my dad's first RX ID card. Mind you he needed to show this to pharmacies to fill meds long before hand but we didn't have anything. The bill never arrived to pay Jan but in Feb we were billed for 2 months. The bill was paid. A note was sent with the bill requesting cancellation of services due to my father's terminal state at the time. My mom called to confirm cancellation via phone & was told my father must call himself. She explained that he was no longer able to physically speak and that he couldn't call. The rep said he couldn't help her. March came and we were billed yet again. My father had passed March 18th. We mailed a notice that he was deceased. Another bill arrived. I called on April 22nd and was told that if we paid them a $4 fee they'd stop the account and we'd no longer receive a bill. That was paid. It's now July and we continue to receive bills. A death certificate was mailed to them showing proof of death on March 18th. I spoke with a senior supervisor tonight named Heather W who advised because CMS didn't notify RX America of my father's deceased status until 3.31.08 we owed for March. Now just to begin how is it acceptable to bill a person for time when they aren't alive? Two how is it ethically correct to advise a family that they can't stop the harrassment and billing because they we're notified until that time that my dad had passed? Is it legal to bill a dead person for services that they can't collect on after his spouse has attempted several times to cancel service and ultimately the patient has died???? NEVER NEVER SIGN UP WITH THIS PLAN. We had Humana in the past and NONE of these problems. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH RX AMERICA THEY ARE RIPOFF ARTISTS.

Why didn't you stay with Humana?

I think the Medicare Part D plans are all a ripoff, more or less. Anyway, why don't you discuss directly with Medicare? Maybe the local SSI folk can help.
