What happened to Safeguard? I spent $1000 for a wheel and tire program. This is the second wheel and tire warranty that I have purchased with a new car, since 2005. I used the warranty for my first car in 2005, without problem. Now, in 2012, it has all changed.

My dealership submitted a claim for a wheel and tire - I hit a curb pretty hard. It took out a huge chunk of the tire and bent the rim. Safeguard is saying based on the PHOTOS that it is cosmetic and thus will not cover this. Cosmetic, really?  A chunk has been taken out of my tire. The tube is exposed. The wheel is bent...huh...Pressure on the tire while driving on the freeway won't compromise the integrity of the tire? A bent rim doesn't affect the car? Really?  Not a problem? Really?

I guess it is better to drive, have the tire blow, get in a car accident, possibly with other cars involved, have medical damage etc...and incur all the other costs associated with such an accident on the roads of Los Angeles. That is cheaper and safer!!?? I really doubt it.

From a risk management point of view. Change the tire, fix the rim. Take care of the customer. Keep drivers and roads safe. The money spent on this repair hardly comes close to the $1000 spent on the warranty.

And talking to the Safeguard claim rep (Danny Schagren) is like talking to a brick wall. They passed the buck on the dealership service tech. It sounds like Safeguard is giving the dealership service techs a rough time now. The service techs said good luck with Safeguard and gladly gave me their number. Danny, the rep was stone faced, no matter what I said. When I asked to speak with his supervisor (Dana Lowe), they put me on hold and then said Dana Lowe was not available, so I was left leaving a message on Dana's voice mail, twice. I asked for the address and names of the rep and supervisor at Safeguard. At least I got that information. We will see if they ever return my call or letter.

I called the dealership and spoke with the management, who is working on taking care of me. They need to know that this type of warranty is yielding negative responses for those who have purchased it and perhaps consider not offering it anymore.

Think twice about purchasing a wheel and tire warranty package.
