This company is using the system in Pennsylvania to their complete advantage because they are contacted by the state police to tow stopped vehicles. They feel they are justified in charging rediculous fees and rates. A tow that should be at the most $80.00 to $100.00 they wanted $195.00. If you do not pay it they charge $50.00 a day storage. I went to their yard within minutes of them picking up my daughter's car off the highway off ramp and took it to their property. I offered to pay them before the car was even off the truck. It was not even in their yard so no storage could be charged? They wanted $300.00 right then and there. This was a complete rip-off and would not pay for thier scheme.

Burden of Proof?

Wow - I was really surprised to read this complaint.  I've used Samantha's Towing on several occasions, and have never received anything but fast professional service at reasonable prices.

It seems that, regardless of whether the female in question was legal to operate her vehicle or not, she was unable to prove this to the law enforcement officer who pulled her over.  Aside from whatever she was doing to have provoked the car stop, her failure to prove her legal status to operate the vehicle obligated the officer to impound the vehicle.  If the officer were to have let the driver go and she got into an accident, the other driver would undoubtedly get a lawyer and go after the State.

If the driver wasn't able to prove their license, insurance and registration at the time of the car stop, then that person can't continue to operate.  The car get's impounded and the tow company get's paid, as they acted in good faith on the good faith actions of the officer who had a legal basis to impound the car.

Bottom line - if you don't like to pay impound fees, or otherwise find those fees to be outrageous, take the necessary steps to drive legally and be able to prove it.

For anyone else reading this - please know that Samantha's Towing is completely legit.  Think about it - the last folks to tolerate anything less than perfect - the PA State Police - utilize them - why wouldn't you?!?

1. She lives on her own, has for three years, makes her own rules and pays her own bills.

2. She had insurance at the time of the stop. Showed proof to the court.

3. True is turns out the car was out of inspection.

4. She had just changed insurance companies and would have checked her driver abstract for a valid license or would have declined her.

5. Citation was dismissed in court. Does that mean she is owed a refund?

This customer is not telling the whole truth on why his daughters vehicle was towed first she did not have insurance her registration was suspended and also the vehicle was not inspected. we have set rates for police impounds and that is what this was also we were told not to release the vehicle without the owner getting the legal to drive on the road that means insurance and also a new license plate which she could not because her license was also suspended and as for the charges they were quote the right charges for the vehicle being stored until sh could get all of her paperwork in order. these poeple just think that they can make false reports on business and not have the business defend them self this consumer was at fault 100 % and they are not providing the whole truth about why her vehicle was towed . we should be looking at them and not my employer unfortanutly they make false comments and this hurts our business and as for the charges the tow was 150.00 and we charges a clerical fee for photo copying and also send paperwork into the state via fedex on their behalf not ours so they pay for this service this fee 45.00 and if they do not have the proper paperwork they are charge 50 a day storage This is all I have to say so if you read this just remember THIS YOUNG LADY DRIVING WITHOUT INSURANCE OR ANY OF HER PAPER WORK CORRECT ON THIS VEHICLE SHE COULD HAVE HAD A ACCIDENT AND THE PERSON OR PERSONS INVOLVED WOULD BE OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE SHE HAD NO INSURANCE PERIOD
