Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I have been ripped off by this school, like many. I received a very poor education, I'm finding out it' very hard to get a job and when you get the opportunity to find one the salary is way under 10.00 dollars a hour not what the school told us on orientation day that when you graduate the program we would start at 20.00 to 30.00 dollars a hour because we were Sanford brown students. Ah! Ah! Ah! . I was able to find a lawyer who is very interested in this case. We will only paid if we win the case . I just want to let any person who wants to be part of a class action suit in 1999 there was a lawsuit in Pennsylvania five thousand students, took action against this school and they won their case.

I feel that Sanford Brown Institute was a waste of time and money, the school provides instructors without qualification and many of them were former students working in the field, something completely different from the answers I was told at registration, when a question about the credentials of the instructors, I was told that all of them were college graduates, and working in the medical fields for many years. Sanford brown have such a bad reputation in Westchester, because the school is known as ghetto school it' very hard to find a job, when we finish the program. I have made complains to all the agencies , in the students catalogs and they felt Sanford Brown is not at fault. The best way for us to win this case and to exposed the school is to get together and have a lawsuit against this institution. If anybody is looking for a lawyer please get in touch with me and let 's work together in this matter.

I attened Sanford Brown College in Atlanta and I thought just like you that the school was great the staff was great so on and so on.  Just like you I was at the top of my class, was very professional on my externship and all that.  But the problem is first the school trained us on outdated archaic equipment.  They hire former students with no training back ground.  The majority of the places to work in the Atlanta did not like to hire their students because of the schools reputation.  I personally have knowledge of students being pushed through to graduate. I passed the Physics portion of the ARDMS requirement with flying colors, but when I realized how hard it would be to get a job outside of maybe one of the hospitals that they used for externships I did not take the second part, because I found out once you are registered there a fees you must pay to remain registered, which was not explained to me until the end of the course.  It's hard to pay fees when you do not have a job.  The school was overpriced as well.  18 months of training cost me $35,000 dollars.  Even if you are able to get a job, most of them where PRN postitions which means you have to work crazy hours and usually at multiple locations to make a decent salary and be on call.  One of the people I worked with 4 years ago is still working as a PRN at two places.  Also when I was being recurited they did not mention to me that at my age (at the time 55) that I would have even a harder time getting hired, because the job itself takes a toll on your body and people usually develope muscular and hand problems from applying pressure when scanning so places have a tendacy to hire younger people.  Yes some people did get hired, but not that many, and we had a lot of great students in our class. There are cheaper programs that you can attend, but they usually take longer and are harder to get accepted in.  I made a mistake, by rushing because I really needed to get back to work after being laid off from my IT job, but thank God I had the IT background because now I am working back in that field at a job I love and making enough money to pay off my student loans that I owe from attending Sanford Brown. So please have a backup plan especially if you took out student loans.

This is in response to E. Pouliot:

I am not going to speak for the school you are or have attended, but I will say this regarding Sanford Brown NYC, it is a joke.  I attended Sanford Brown Institute NYC several years ago, completing the diagnostic medical ultrasound Program in 2009.  Before registering with the school, the school's representatives told me that with this certificate program I would be eligible to sit for the ARDMS exam to become a registered tech, which most employers reqiuire you to have...pretty much all.  This is false.

At the time the program wasn't accredited, and if you did not have a bachelor's degree or one year full time paid work experience as a ultrasound tech, you are not eligible to take the exam... this I found out a little too late.

My other classmates were told the same lies... 90% of my classmates did not possess a bachelor's degree.  So even upon graduating from Sanford Brown Program we were not eligible to become fully registered in order too find employment in the field.

Without the ARDMS credential, employers DID NOT CONSIDER US FOR EMPLOYMENT.  It didn't matter even if you graduated with a 4.0 GPA and were the best student there...which was fairly easy to get all A's.

Another fallacy we were told was that our instructors were medical doctors, which I also found out a little too late, are in fact not medical doctors, but they were just ultrasound technicians.  I was suspicious of this when one of the lecturers (a supposed M.D.) mistakenly taught us that glycolysis is the same  as glycogenesis. This is Bio 101 for anyone who is a bio major.   Anyhow, about a year ago as I was visiting a relative at Bellevue Hospital, I found one of my instructors from Sanford Brown Institute (another supposed M.D.) working as an ultrasound tech there... hmmm.

The school does have a bad reputation, which I hear from almost everyone who works in hospitals.  If I knew then what I know know I would have never bothered with this school.  They are liars with a bad reputation!

Right now I am enrolled at CUNY and am 17 credits away from a B.S. in biology... way more affordable and they are actually acknowledged as a real school.  Maybe then I will be able to get my credentials.

I attended UDS 99-00. I passed all my classes and moved on to my externship. We all know when you start your externship , your hours must be documented by the facility & sent to the school. According to UDS I was dropped from the program because I was not doing my externship hours. This was a lie. I tjen met with someone at the school and spoke with them for about an hour trying to resolve this matter. I was told that I needef to take 2 classes over in order to be reinstated back in to receive my certificate. When I called a week later to follow up and explained the meeting I had I was told " No, we would never offer you that, you did not get that information from us" . Are they crazy? ??? I sat with an instructor in thier facility!!! They would not release my records at that time and when they changed over my records vanished. 14 yrs later I'm still paying for a loan and did not get my certificate. I was a new mom with a 4 mnth old home at the time and I took and completed every class! This was a complete rip off and I cannot believe with as many complaints I have seen toawards this school, they are allowed to keep taking money from us. If there is an action suit, I'm in!

I went to sbi was made promises that i would make between $20-30 an hour. I never found a job and have loans that to me are unfair ive been out of school for years now with no medical assistant job still and found out alot of the teachers who are there were students from previous classes. Also they tell you in order to pass hematology you dont have to get stuck well its not true because once in the class the teacher says something totally different. they lie to get your money get you sucked in and then leave you to the wolves. contact me at [email protected] Im ready to make them pay back the money that they knew i would never be able to pay back since they knew there would be no employment behind this and also i got all high grades in my classes and no one excepts credits from them.

I so want in. Words can not express how unprofessional this school is. Lies, lies they have a very bad reputation and they allow anyone to enter. For example taking test on abbreviations of the states, however, females in the class didn't feel it was fair to take this simple quick quiz on the spot they needed time to study and when I said something I was argued down on trying to be a know it all.. Do you really want people who need to study NY, NJ, MN, etc to take your vitals or someone close to you. Etcetcetc so much more. Also there is a young woman who attended the school with me and guess what she doesn't have any education after junior high. As a matter a fact she just contacted me and ask me to take her GED test for her. I have no job and I can't pay off this student loan. I have been working temp jobs here and there and I'm a mother of two. My youngest is disabled. I was expecting to be able to better provide for my family by now and I'm right back to where I started at. Even the counselor who got me left and he left while I was still there. Contact me there is so much more to say and as I read there is no need to write some things it would just be repetitive. [email protected] or even call me 347-645-4526

The only thing I get back is Thank you but we are looking at other applicants.. What the H**l. I studied and worked my tail off.. Now I cant even get a job on what I went to school for... My student loans are now coming due.. These people at Sanford Brown are full of BS...Get this Two people out of Thirty even got a job in the field.. The bad part is I quit a job to go to Sanford Brown.. That is because they had a family member all ready working in the hospital and got them on.... Sonographers against ARDMS

#10Consumer Suggestion

Wed, December 12, 2012

Hello All,

I understand your frustrations and I am in on getting Sanford Brown Institute for what they did. Please contact me because I was a student there and had a hard time gaining employment and cannot get registered.

I want you guys to think about something else!
I think we need to point fingers at ARDMS too! I would like anyone who completed a sonography/ultrasound program that was not "accredited" according to ARDMS to please email me  with your story. It can be anonymous if you would like but make sure to have a valid email attached to your response so I can update you on what is going on.

If you have not been able to get registered please email me a 1-2 pages explanation on what it has been like. Tell me what school you attended, what year, what happened when you graduated. All the details you can give me.

I will be submitting this to the organization that ARDMS is accredited through and make complaint about the strict and ridiculous criteria needed to take the exam. I will also point out how they have become the industry standard for licensing yet it is not requires by law to be a licensed ultrasound technician through ARDMS. The reason almost 90 % of the medical facilites throughout the country have ARDMS as a requirement is because some how ARDMS has gotten the insurance companies that pay out to these facilites to require ARDMS as a licensing standard. You can't get a job because ARDMS has become a monopoly in the industry and set standard that many cannot live up to. This is greatly affecting our lives because many of us cannot get jobs or are being held back at work because we are not registered or rather cannot become registered because of their licensing requirements.

I think a lot of sonographers are over looking ARDMS as possible catalyst to this problem. It is acidulous that ARDMS is not required by law but yet you cannot get a job with them. They are basically a group of people that got up one morning said " let's start an organization to regulate sonographers, we'll have them take a test and call it a license and have the insurance companies demand that the medical facilities who hire these individuals require our license."

It's ridiculous!

Please join me in this fight. Please send your emails to [email protected]
with your full story.

Thanks

This school is a RIP OFF!!! I have loans for over 30k for their Ultrasound program 4 years ago and I could not find a job. This school did not tell me that you cannot get a job unless you are a registered ultrasound sonographer. As we were graduating we were than told we would have to work a full year and than we can take the registry test but with that no hospital or facility would hire me because they did not want that liability of hiring a non registered technician. Therefore, I was unemployed for over a year with no help from my school. I now am back in school for nursing but i am stuck paying a loan of $35k for the next 20 years... Are their any lawyers I can contact???

I am currently attending Sanford Brown Institue in Crasnton. I dont feel ripped off one bit. Maybe its just the schools you are going to or maybe you just didnt get good enough grades. I have great, well qualified teachers. All of which currently work in the Medical Field and have been for 12 to 40 years. All of them have more than one degree and some are still currently going to school for masters in many different things. They are very good teachers and i find the courses very easy to follow. I am getting straight A's in my courses so far and i owe that to those teachers. They are always there if you have questions or need extra help. They do not make you feel rushed in any way to make you feel more comfortable and confident.

At my orientation they had told us they cannot tell us how much we will make after graduation because every place is different. Also it depends on your grades and professionalism whether or not you get hired. If you just barely pass your classes and dont look and act professional, you will not get hired.

Many students at my school are getting hired within 3 months of graduation and some get hired at their extern sites. Almost all student in my school are getting A's and B's and i cant speak for all of us when i say we owe it all to our wonderful teachers at Sanford Brown Cranston.

Also, the school works with you and helps you with financial aid and payment plans. They are very flexible and very helpful. The school also has plenty of service learning opportunities to help you get out there, get your practice and gain experience which will also look good on your resume. Which brings me to another point, they have staff on board just to help you put your resume together and make it perfect and they help you as much as they possible can to find a job as soon as possible by sending you on interviews, giving you lists of places to contact and helping you with your interview skills.

I think this "Riff Off" is just a way for students who did poorly to get money. If you are paying for an education, it is your job to study and really get that knowledge, Not the school. Also, when you are looking into going to school it is up to you to make sure the school of your choice is accreditted and the programs are accreditted. Sanford Brown is accreditted and so are all of their programs. So i dont believe that you couldnt get jobs because of the school you went to, or that you got hired and they asked to to get recertified.

These are the same issues that are going on at my institute in NYC. The instructors speak little to no english so you are completely lost when it comes to taking notes during lectures and the instructors who do speak english were once students themselves at SBI so they can not teach at all without the internet , Google and webMD.LMAO without the assistance of the net there would be no lessons and on top of the huge language barrier, being uneducated these Instructors as well as alot of the students are extremely UNPROFESSIONAL,RACIST,RUDE,GHETTO and DISRESPECTFUL !!! These are the many reasons why I have been trying to get out of my loan for 13,500 for the MA program. Which so far I have learned nothing except that I AM BEING ROBBED BY SBI OF NYC .

Irene, noticed you posted your issue quite some years ago.  I attended Ultrasound (Elmsford)/ SBI-Whiteplains and have also experienced some if not all issues mentioned by you and many others whom have responded to your post.  Upon completion of my [MA] program, I could barely afford to pay for and maintain my bills, let alone pay on my newly incurred loan debt! Furthermore, was shut down when I attempted to have my "credits" transferred over to a "traditional" college to further advance my health career. For so long I unsuccessfully searched for a group to pursue a class action suit. If the case is still open, please COUNT ME IN!

sandford-brown is a complete rip off. I am currently enrolled there in saint louis at the fenton loacation and trying to get transfered before it is too late. No schools accept they credits i dont know what to do im just pissed off. There are too many students unemployeed and ithe school has a bad rep. i am uynhappy with the staff and i do not like the finanical aid department they seem unconcerned with your matters and questions. They finanical aid reps seem to have a hard time telling me about my finanicail aid information just throwing around a buntch of numbers and not saying anything understandable. I also have a child in elementary school and they do not have flexible class schedules they start too early for her bus arrivial are let out too late for me to pick her up and they seem unconcerned with that also. I am trying to work and go to school but i can fit thet in either. I alos realized that the school classes are just too easy for it to be college like its for play or something. I do not mind that you complete clasees faster that everyone else but i do not ee how you learn and keep the information. I HATE THIS SCHOOL AND I WANT OUT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE OR I WILL SUE THEM.

Former SBCstudent trying to transfer credits

#28Consumer Comment

Mon, October 06, 2008

I was a succesful student from Sanford Brown College in Fenton, MO graduating class of 2004. I was lucky and had the right contacts to land a succesful career unlike the majority of my classmates. I am now thinking about going back to school at somewhere with a better reputation. From what I have read this could be nearly impossible and I might be starting from scratch with zero credits. If the credits are not transferable I will most likely being looking for an attorney to help me through this fight. I feel SBC is a fraud and should at least disclose correct credit transfering guidleines during enrollment. I know of several students that have went back for their bachelors degree because no where else would accept the credits that they paid a premium for at Sanford Brown. If anyone is currently in a legal battle or has had succes transferring credits I would love to hear details of your struggle.

Seriously, find an attorney who believes in you and is willing to file a class action suit. I was a member of the class action group who successfully sued Sanford Brown (then UDS) 13 years ago. After contacting several unwilling lawyers in Cleve., a law group in New Jersey finally took the case, won and made a lot of $ for their firm. Then do your homework. Ask school admins direct questions and document every conversation, phone call or email. Ask for a copy of your transcripts (your school must provide access) and make sure that you are aware of every paper in your file. Finally, gather names, addresses and phone numbers of students and former students so that the attorney smart enough to take the case has a place to begin gathering information. Good luck!

Ask for a copy of your transcripts (your school must provide access) and make sure that you are aware of every paper in your file. Finally, gather names, addresses and phone numbers of students and former students so that the attorney smart enough to take the case has a place to begin gathering information. Good luck!

Find an attorney

Good luck!

LET"S GET A CLASS ACTION SUIT STARTED...THEY DID IT WHEN SANFORD BROWN WS UDS _ Ultrasound Diagnostics School

I want to be be a part of any class action too. EVERYONE NNEEDS TO KNOW A CLASS ACTION SUIT COVERS ANYONE WHO ATTENDED ANY OF THESE SANFORD BROWN SCHOOLS no matter what state you live in. I attended Ultrasound Diagnostic School, now known as Sanford Brown Institute at 365 Cadwell Dr., Springfield, MA. Look at how severely their fake school affected my life. They ruined my life...this is what happened to me. My life has been devastated by them failing to give real education. Jeannette....my story.. I lived 27 years of my life taking care of 3 ill family members full time. When they died I was a 42 year old woman with no skills and no experience. I went and talked to Sanford Brown reps (then it was called Ultrasound Diagnostic School) and I told them I needed a promise that their school was NOT bogus because going there for Medical Assistant training would be my ONE AND ONLY CHANCE at getting an education and job skills and that my life and future depended on the school's validity, accreditation and training skills. They told me countless times they had acceptable accreditation. They did not. Their accreditation is not recognized by the AMA (American Medical Association) or the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants). I was told by the school reps and teachers that I could become a certified Medical Assistant. This is not true because the school does not have the correct accreditation required by the AAMA. The accreditation they hold allows you to become ONLY a registered Medical Assistant. Being a registered Medical ssistant means absolutely NOTHING in the medical world. I graduated from UDS (Ultrasound Diagnostic School - NOW called Sanford Brown University, in 2000. My grade point average was higher than 4.0 and I graduated at the top of all classes that were there at tthe time. I have a high I.Q. At first I was able to get a few jobs - always temporary jobs. But I always found that my education at UDS/Sanford Brown had NOT prepared me at all for what doctors require of you skillwise! There were very few jobs in the Springfield, MA area for Medical Assistants unless you graduated from an actual college training program with an associates degree. So I moved to Henderson, NV where there is a great demand for medical assistants. But after eight years I was employed as a Medical Assistant for nothing more than 6 weeks here. Then again for another 6 weeks at a medical office where one doctor threw files at me and verbally degraded me for absolutely no reason. Since then I am told my training school is not considered "viable." So I can't get work! The training that UDS aka Sanford Brown provided was useless. They always skipped over all of the procedures in the books that we should have been learning and told us we'd learn it all on the job-sites! That is NOT true! They expect you to already know these procedures when you get a job. When I was in school for those 7 months, there were welfare girls there solely so they could continue getting their welfare checks. They had no interest in learning skills to get a job. They disrupted the classes daily. We had several teachers abandon us and the school and quit during the middle of our courses. We were left without teachers and eventually had substitutes. We had teachers who spent all of their classes telling us about their personal lives and relationships and relationship woes! There was no consistency in anything in that school. Do you call this a VIABLE SCHOOL? I don't! In eight years here I have been employed for ONLY a total of 12 weeks! In 2004 I almost became homeless because of my inability to find work as a Medical Assistant. I am currently living with my boyfriend, which is all I have between me and being homeless! I am broke. I lost my car and had to file banckruptcy. I am virtually penniless. My boyfriend had to pay my UDS/Sanford Brown student loan off for me. I am financially broke, I am spiritually and mentally broke and my heart is broke because the teachers and school reps promised me they were on the up and up, they promised me written letters of reccomendation, and all I got was taken! They knew (because I told them) that after my mother's death, I only had enough money to live off of for a year - long enough to complete their schooling. I told them my life literally depended on the validity of their school and training. They failed me and my life is in ruins. So they KNEW they were screwing me over big time. And the company my boyfriend is employed with is now at risk of closing due to the economy. We could end up homeless! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! A CIVIL SUIT NEEDS TO BE STARTED! And my mentor, Ms Terri (Ward) Wyman failed me most of all because I brought all of my concerns about the school to her attention numerous times telling her I was thinking about transferring to Porter and Chester (who had the correct accreditation) but she and Mrs. Kathryn Dearborn (the female dean at the time) would reel me right back in and convince me to stay telling me one time that 'because I was the the top student, that if I left the school, they were afraid everyone else would follow and leave too.' I would voice my concerns to other girls in the class and tell them I was slowly realizing this school was a joke. During my schooling there I was having heart problems and could not remember the facts of one class we were being tested on. I walked out of the class upset since I was always able to take the tests and score an A. Miss Dearborn tried giving me an oral version of the test. It didn't matter because I could not recall the lessons of the class. This is what she did. SHE LIED AND TOLD ME I PASSED THE ORAL TEST! How could I have...I couldn't answer any of her questions! She told me "now in return I want you to stop telling the other students that this school is a joke! We don't want a revolt of students leaving the school." She passed me on the one test ONLY so I would stop telling the truth - that the school was a JOKE! If it's also true what I heard about Sanford and Brown (formerly UDS) being closed in Springfield, MASS now it puts me in even more dire straits because now I have no back up to all of the references I had that were all attached to that school. That school was there for one purpose only - to make money from the federal student grants. The more students they dragged in - they better - FOR THEM! But me - I was taken by them, screwed over big time! Where will they be if something happens and I end up homeless? I'll tell you where - NO WHERE BECAUSE THEY WON'T CARE! I want to join the class action suit, just let me know what to do. I went to their Iselin, NJ campus and have been researching on how to get my money back for a couple of years now. This school is horrible, the teachers didn't do much and it was in a high school setting. I decided I no longer wanted to be there and left the school. I asked for a refund and they refused. They took out 2 loans in my name, one of which is a federal loan with a 19.99% INTEREST!!!! I am going out of my mind! The interest is as big as my monthly payment was towards the loan monthly and I could not pay it down. It is now in default and the loan has gone up by more than $4,000 in interest ALONE!!! I really do not think I should be paying this. They lied to me and said I had to join the Medical Assistant program in order to get to the Radiology program! It was BS when I talked to students that were already in their Radiology program. They pushed me into the school and signed me up while I was uninformed. Ripped me off big time!

I to am a victim of this school. Upon admission I was told that the credits were trasferrable and that I would graduate and find a job making $12 an hour. None of that happened. I tried to continue my education and found no one took these credits and I had a black cloud because I graduated from this school. The career services division was a piece of crap. I found my own job after a year. Yes I was unemployed after graduation for over a year. No one would hire for more then $8.00 a hour. I left a job paying 10.50 to got to school. It was a waste of time and alot of heartache, and money. If there is a lawsuit I want in. I want my money back the school is ripoff.
