Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My family and I moved to Rock Hill, SC June 24, 2005. We met with the Building Superintendent (Donna) who advised that we need to sign off on the "final walk thru list" before we could close on the house. She advised that repairs would be made before we moved into the house. She also advised that a privacy fence would be built behind the homes on our street a/c the future widening of the highway (which was never told to us when the home was sold by Coldwell Banker).

When we moved into the house, we noticed the paint was watered down. The neighbors to the right of us said that they admitted the paint was watered down and offered to have a new painter come out and repaint their house as long as they purchased the paint. Why should the neighbor have to purchase the paint when the builder acknowledges to their error.

The next item we noticed on the list is a bulging wall in our sit in living area. We were told that would be fixed. The wall still bulges today.

We then recognized no screens were on the any of the windows. I made a phone call and they sent the helpers to put the screens up.

I was using the ladies room and happened to look back and to my surprise, it looked as though a child finger painted under the restroom sink. It was such a mess and I was livid. I called them and they came out to smooth the area out behind the sink.

At this point, I'm checking through the house for the next surprise. I looked behind the downstairs restroom and to my surprise, the mirror was and is still hanging my one screw (picture taken).

The builder admitted to forgetting to prewire our home for security. Jimmy Ray offered to either tear the wall down to prewire the home or offered to pay for a wireless system.

The hall restroom faucet is off the bathtub/shower as of October 2005. I called this in as well as information that the other faucets are very loose. The faucet is still off to date (picture taken).

There are nails falling out of some walls and others are starting to appear in the walls as well. The ceiling is bulging near the laundry room. The calking is coming apart in several rooms of the house. The stair rail is extremely loose. You can feel unstable boards when you walk in different areas of the house. If having my warranty items repaired is wrong, I don't want to be right (smile).

The dishonest picture that has been painted of my family is my next major concern. I filed a complaint with two Better Business Bureau offices (Georgia and Charlotte, NC). The builder (Jimmy Ray) responded back to my rebuttals. In his first response, he states that the warranty tech came to the house and was asked to leave due to a police matter. The York County Sherriff and Rock Hill Police Departments can vouch that we've never had any police situation at our home. Jimmy Ray stated that the tech made note that there were fingerprints on the walls and those are not covered under warranty. He said in that same response that all other warrantable repairs were made.

In the next response to my rebuttal, Jimmy Ray stated that they were more than nice to me. They gave me a appliance package with my house (most builders offer this so this was no biggy). They built me a fence as a goodwill gesture. They built the fence because they promised a fence due to the fact that we were never told that the highway would be widened behind our homes (Sethwood Drive homes). And then, there came a discrepancy when Jimmy Ray states that they have made several attempts to reach us to get back into our home to make the repairs. Now, if all warrantable repairs were made, why are you trying so hard to reach the customer to make the necessary repairs.

What hurt the most was the slander that I read in the Better Business Bureau package received from the Charlotte, NC chapter in Friday's mail. He had the audacity to have a note written in cursive writing that stated that my husband stills(should be steals) if you leave something. I do believe in a legal book, this would be slander. My husband stole nothing from them. We both work hard to get everything we have. God gives us the strength and power to afford a nice home and to take care of his children. How can you write information regarding a homeowner? He also stated that I felt the Building Superintendent, Donna, was a racist. I never said that she was racist because God doesn't put me on this earth to judge. I did ask him, during our October 2005 conversation, if she was treating me like this because I was African American. The reason I asked this is because Donna was talking to me one day and said that she was sending her niece home to live with her parents because she was dating a "Black" guy that uses and abuses her. Basically, the Builder (Jimmy Ray) is trying to paint a picture of a African American family that is troubled by police, bad children (children's fingerprints on the wall, etc) and is very needed (because we ask for so much). What is wrong with this picture? The Builder needs to accept responsibility and properly satisfy the customer. Slander and dishonesty doesn't paint a pretty picture.

I'll end this in theory by saying, "Research before purchasing a home. Never let the builder get away with dishonesty and slander. Make sure you get your money's worth. Last and not least, trust in God. He'll make everything alright after all is said and done."
