Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Well Let's see....I worked for Schwans for around 5 years.  At first it was great.  I worked 4 days a week Monday thru thursday.  I loved it.  I took routes that were performing poorly and made them into decent routes.  Grant it I worked around 50 hours or more in those four days but I had 3 day weekends.  So I was willing to work hard.  Then they put me on flex routes which you and another guy would partner up and split the route day in half, but you still ended up working around 9 hours a day.  That wasn't too bad except you didn't make money.  So then I moved to a ware house job.  It beat me up.  unloding semi's full every week.  Not bad, but each case weighted around 30 or more pounds and then there would be only 2 to 3 people to un load a full or half full semi in under 2 hours because they split the semi deliveries with another depot so you had to bust your butt to get it out the door to another depot in time for them to unload it.

We never had over time or did we rarely get a full 40 hours a week.  So far I was not to bothered by work.  It paid okay and it was a job.  Then they started telling me you can only work 35 hours, but you still need to get the same amount of stuff done in a week.  No big deal I thought because of the economy everyone was cutting back a little.  Then they said no pay raised for hourly employees.  Once again I really didn't give it much thought.  Then they said hey you can only work the guys 30 hours a week.  Then I had a guy have a couple of days were he had the flu.  He comes back and they tell him if he is sick again then he goes to part time status.  I thought wow.  no way.  Just because he was sick he almost lost his benifits.  Then came Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  We worked 10 days straight for each holiday weekend and were told we could get overtime.

Short story is we worked no overtime nor did we even get 40 hours..  They split our work week in a matter were one week of those 10 days we had 30 hours and the following week only around 20 hours if we were lucky.  I will never work for a company like Schwans again.  We never had a paid holiday or a sick day ever and they probably won't.  The rate at which they turn over people is crazy to say the least.  Just be careful when you accept an employment offer from this company.  They make it sound good when you interview, but here is the funny part if you interview for a job chances are you are the only person they are interviewing for it.  They already make up their minds before you interview.    If you say yes to the job right away then you got it.  If you tell them that you may not be interested after your ride day then they call the next person.  I guess if you don't really care about hours or time off or holidays you would do good with this job.  Good luck is all I can say.

Schwan's does not give 2 s***s about you or any of their employees or even their customers.h

Like the title says.

Case in point: They will run off 80 to 90 % of their drivers by asking them to quit or forcing them to quit, rarely firing (they would have to pay unemployment for unjust dismissal). Even if the driver is making progress, it may not be rapid enough.

Then they con the next poor soul to come in and do the same thing to him. All the while, existing customers get fed up and quit ordering. Then the new guy has to con people to become customers to take their place. Not quick enough so he's forced out. The viscous cycle continues.

If they really cared about their employees and customers, they would allow the drivers flexible hours like they promise when you are hired. They would stop screwing with the pay structure. They would stop shitting on people when they file for unemployment. (Schwan's will lie through their teeth to cheat you out of your unemployment- it's just another way for them to ruin you.)

It would cost them alot of money for a few years to do this but in doing so, they would have 90% of their drivers be stable + stable customers=profit and happy customers and happy drivers. Unfortunately, they have rocks in their heads and continue to do the same thing over and over.

What is the point of forcing drivers to work 9am or earlier to 10pm or later only to have them not find folks home during the day. A guy out to be able to run his routes as he sees fit like maybe noon to 10 or 2 to 10. I'm rambling so I'll stop.

EVERYONE: JUST STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS f**kED UP COMPANY, IT COULD RUIN YOU. LIFE IS REALLY TOO SHORT TO INVEST UPWARDS OF 70 OR 80 HOURS A WEEK FOR  A COMPANY THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO TOTALLY f**k YOU OVER!

HEED THIS WARNING!!

Thanks for the feedback.  I just talked to one of my ex co-workers and he said that he is getting another part time job because things still haven't gotten any better with hours even when they made my position a part time one.  Man that is nuts.  I am pretty sure they will be scaling back their company structure in the near future.  Run while you can is all I can say.

Sorry to hear your story. I now know what a bottom of the barrel company is. Glad to put it behind me as the sky is the limit now.

To anyone even considering working for this company, think twice. (In my opinion, they don't give two shits about their employees). I know someone that worked in sales support at a different level and said it was the most f**ked up company he ever worked for and quit within a month or less.

This is a company that has you sign a no compete contract and attempts to use it it to keep you from letting the truth be known about them.

This is why everybody that posts here or at the retailreality.net Schwan's board remains anonymous. That's o.k., The truth will prevail.

Do your part to help this company either change their business practices or go out of business like any other company with their business practices deserves. I recommend as others have to RUN, do not walk, away from Crooked Schwan's as fast as you can and don't look back.
