Scott Pointer placed an add on Craigslist for a motor home he had claimed was being sold through AutoTrader.
The add was for a 1988 30 foot motor home. I had always wanted one and the price was really good. I was told that AutoTrader was a stand up company so I thought I was safe.
When Scott told me that he would accept $1000.00 down and payments I was happy.
I was informed that the money would stay safely with an Autotrader agent timothy Oakley until the motor home reached my address, then i had three day to check it out, and if it was in the shape that I had been told it would be in I would keep it.
And only then, would Scott Pointer recieve the down payment.
I was not sure about wiring that much money without a receipt but like I said I was told AutoTrader had been around for a very long time and when I did not find timothy Oakley's name on a scam page I went ahead and wired the money.

However, after I sent the deposit Scott Pointer emailed me stating he would get back to me tomorrow to let me know what was happening with the tracking numbers and I never heard from him again. After emailing him and AutoTrader and recieving no replies I started looking on the interenet for Scott Pointer's name and that is when I found he had ripped off others. So now I have no money and no motor home. I can only pray that the Lord can forgive Scott Pointer and Timothy Oakley for their hurtful and sinful ways. May the Lord touch their hearts and turn their lives around before they hurt someone else or it is too late.

The first page on cars and trucks for sale on Craigslist says:

"How to recognize a vehicle scam attempt on CL:

"Shipping a vehicle to you is suggested by seller eBay Motors or another intermediary is specified by seller
Payment by Western Union or a money wire is requested Price is unusually low (fraction of blue book value)

"If you see these tell-tale signs, flag ad as "prohibited" and avoid Offers to ship a vehicle are virtually 100% fraudulent
eBay has no involvment in craigslist for sale ads, and any eBay or similar emails or web pages you receive are fake
Never use Western Union or wire transfer to pay for goods - only a scammer will ask for this, and any funds sent will be lost
Do not buy vehicles sight-unseen, regardless of low price. The vehicle does not exist, and any money you send will be lost.

"Stories about divorcees or departing servicemen needing to sell quickly at a low price are generally fraudulent
If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
More information is available for avoiding scams"
