Last year, end of the summer 2007, we started having problems with air conditioning upstairs in our 5 year old home not working. Techs came out after a long wait for an appointment. He cleaned and did preventative maintenance on air conditioning. unit. Claimed it should work but to call back in spring the weather heated up a bit if if wasn't working. We got though the late fall and spring. Late spring it became evident that air conditioner wasn't working. I had to be at home all day lon waiting for a repairman to come on several occasions.

One guy who was supposedly in management came wearng a big bold metal pin saying SUPERVISOR. I wasn't impressed when he tried to tell me that the problem was with the way the house was built and the venting system. I said, "I find that hard to believe because the air conditioning worked just fine for the first 4 years." He said, "I was just playing devil's advocate." After that, Sears sent a brand new trainee to try to fix the problem. That didn't work so great. I requested someone with some experience.

Finally they sent someone competent, but it took him 3 or 4. visits before he could fix the problem. It turned out that a new condenser was needed. Then the wrong condenser was either ordered or came in. One appointment was cancelled by Sears after I sat home all day waiting for them to come. It's been a nightmare.

I would tell anyone I knew that getting a maintenence agreement from Sears isn't worth the paper it's written on IF your time is worth anything. If time is of no importance, go ahead. Eventually, if you are persistant enough and lucky enough to find a technician capable of fixing something, it might get done. You'd better be mighty patient though. Sears isn't all it's cracked up to be. They don't give maintenance agreement customers a time when they'll come, they make them sit home all day from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. waiting. It's amazing that they can get away with this lack of customer care and service and still be in business. They're making it on their past reputation. Since K-Mart has taken over, it isn't an improvement, that's for sure.
