Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My complaint begins with a leaking well pump. The model was a Craftsmen Deep Well Professional "hydroglass" jet pump.  It has worked well for over 10 years, it supplies my only source of water to my home. I decided that because it seamed to be a good product, and Sears has had a very good reputation and reliable trustworthy history in my past experiences thus far, I would replace this well pump with the exact model.
The pump was still being manufactured, the exact pump. The price was reasonable,at $275.00, and the installation ; I was told would be $165.00, which I was OK with.  I had assumed that a Sears Technician would be doing the work.  I was wrong.  They subcontracted the work out to a plumber service, who I will not mention...YET anyway!

I must mention now that even when my pump was leaking; first with a small drip and finally a pretty bad sprung leak, that old pump still brought enough water into my house so I could shower, flush toilets, etc.
Unfortunately, the day the subcontractor arrived I was at work and my wife was home. She calls me and tell me , not only is the plumber not going to install the pump that particular day which Sears told me it would be installed, but also I would be charged an additional $300.00 because the plumber had to cut and re-fit about 4 or 5 PVC pipes.
I felt my back was against the wall, and I had to pay it however extremely over priced this work was. My family was in jeopardy of being with out water totally if this leak got much worse, so I agreed, but not without telling the company that now at a cost of $465.00 it d**n well better be done tomorrow (the next day) and it better be done correctly .  This, the company assured me, would certainly be the case.

I happened to arrive on that day, after the plumber had gone to get the parts he needed.  upon his return he began sawing away and with in about 5 minutes had the old pump removed and was beginning to install the replacement.
About 45 minutes later I went back to check on him and wouldn't you know he was just about finished, he was mounting the pressure gauge.  But when he started to wire up the pump, he seemed to be with out the proper tools.  So, I ; wanting to help this quite nervous chap, opened my tool box and began handing him my own tools. I even helped him loosen some screws he was to weak to turn.

About an hour later he seemed to be in some what of a panic and on the phone to his boss , I assume.  The same boss who states on his business card that he is a Certified Master Plumber.  Between the two of them they could not figure out why I was getting barely a trickle, the pump wouldn't shut off, the water that was coming out of the hose was nasty iron laden and  regularly interrupted by spurts of air and gurgling sounds.
So, Dave ,lets call him, because that's what he told me his name was, finally said to me  I have done all I was paid to do here, but my boss is going to come out first thing in the morning tomorrow and he is bringing a "well man", which is, I assume a plumber that actually understands how a well pump works.

I was upset, but assured the problem would be taken care of the next day.  Now I am with out the use of water at all in my house. I now had to deal with splitting up my family among relatives and friends who so kindly accomidated us.
The next day came, by noon had not heard from the Sears subcontractor. So , I began leaving messages and texting him, because I had to work that evening.  He did call me back shortly there after and proceeded to tell me that regardless of what his employee had told me, NO ONE from his company was coming out, sorry about your luck ,I understand but it aint MY problem, because we are only paid to install the pump which we did, it is neither our fault nor our responsiblillity now.  These things are now between you and whomever you bought the darn thing from, Oh yeh, whats that company?  Sears.

Where has the integrity gone?  It sounds like it could be a folk song.  But, seriousley it makes me sad, angry embarassed because I feel like I done been had, in a not so nice way. Is that really how this man wants to run his company.  Well, I am going to try to be an optimist and hope this man does right by me and refunds all or most of my money and an appology would be really nice.
So after telling 4 different Sears "customer service " reps. my story 4 different times, and honestly I am pretty sure they were holding the phone away from there ear as I poured my anger and frustration out on them.  That said, they were all very nice and seemed to be conserned and understanding.

Today, between 1pm and 5pm a Sears technician is supposed to come out and see just what the problem might be, and I pray that he can just fix it.  That is really all I ever wanted in the first place.
I believe that Sears is a good company, I hope they prove me right.  And, to give the subcontractor due process , I will see what the Sears guy has to say. Maybe it is an equipment malfunction, I do not think it is, but there is that chance. If that indeed is the case, even though I do believe I was WAY overcharged, I will come back here and let you know.
But, If either of these companies do wrong by me , I will mention NAMES, NUMBERS, ETC. I am giving both companies a chance to make things right. If they do I promise to recognize their integrity, and maybe just maybe...It will be a folk song with a happy ending.
Please, if anyone has any ideas on what steps I should take should this go South, or North for that matter.  Or any well technicians or plumbers, I would love to hear from you.
