This post refers to a Nigerian check scam run out of various locations in Canada, that targets consumers using fraudulent letters and checks claiming to be legitimate companies like WalMart, Target, and ShadowShopper, and asking them to do what they call a "mystery shopping assignment". By fraudulently using ShadowShopper's name and sometimes even a knock-off of their logo (they also use the logos of major retailers for credibility) they try to "prove" that they're real. The check, which is always from another party (most recently a fraudulent imitation of the State of Maryland's checks!) will eventually bounce but not until the consumer sends good funds through a Western Union to the criminals. Again, this is NOT ShadowShopper. ShadowShopper is a victim just like the consumers that fall for the fraud.
