I've also had a very negative experience dealing with S&J Auto. I ordered an evaporator for my '94 Mercedes from S&J on 6/29. On 6/30, my credit card was charged $323.50. A week later, I received the evaporator, but found a newer one while waiting for my shipment. I returned the evaporator (without opening the box) to the address on the shipment; LuxParts in Lake City, FL. I had the shipment sent via delivery confirmation and phone LuxParts to verify receipt.

Terry, Luxparts acknowledged receipt and informed me that my refund was in the mail. After 2 weeks of waiting for the refund to arrive, I phoned Terry and was told that the refund was sent to S&J Auto. I phoned S&J Auto over 30 times within the last 2 months and have only reached John who works in sales. He constantly refers me to the "accounting section" (Jackie & Joyce) and the call immeditely goes to a voice recording. I've left over 30+ messages and have yet to receive a call-back. I've e-mailed them over 5 times and yet to have anyone respond. My next stop after I complete this report is the County Courts.

Just wanted to update all that I finally received most of my refund back from S&J. I'm still a little upset that it took over 3 months, daily phone calls and plenty of patience to have them still keep $80 of my money that they didn't deserve. I was told the $80 was to cover shipping cost and re-stocking fee. You have to be kidding me! How can they charge for shipping and a re-stocking fee when the part wasn't shipped or returned to them. They were only the middle man in the process. I phoned LuxParts (where the part originated) and was informed by Terry that they reimbursed S&J the TOTAL amount I paid when I returned the part to LuxParts. If anyone should've charged me a re-stocking and shipping fee, it should've been LuxParts, since they had to ship and re-stock the part. On top of that, S&J should've reimbursed my total amount, plus compensation for all the hassle, long distance phone charges, and tolerance I had to bear. My suggestion to anyone dealing with S&J in the future is: 1. Use a credit card and dispute the charge with your credit card company the moment you feel resistence with receiving a refund from S&J. Don't wait past the limitation time of 60 days (as I did) 2. Find a more reputable business to do business with, period!

#6Consumer Suggestion

Thu, September 23, 2004

Though hindsight is 20/20, you would have better off to return the item to place YOU bought it from, not the place they bought it from. However, now that is in the past, here are some ideas. 1. Go to S&J and ask for the manager, these elusive accounting section people or the owner. Let them know what a joke this has been. 2. Send a certified letter with you complaint and a deadline for resolution to the manager/owner. (You can contact the Secretary of States office or website to identify the owner.) 3. File a small claims. I hope these suggestions help, be sure to post how this comes out.
