After having an interview with Kim Laflamme to purchase one of his AI puppies I sent my deposit of $500 on February 12, 2016, to Kim, owner of SONG DOG KENNELS, American Indian dogs or AI dogs, associated with the IIDOBA forum (his forum on the dogs). The interview was very pleasant as was Kim LaFlamme, I was very excited and felt great about receiving an AI dog.
Unfortunately, when I attempted on several occasions to log into the IIDOBA forum I was unable. I sent several emails, with no response. Still feeling content with my initial interview with Kim Laflamme, I surmised that since I wasn’t getting a response that perhaps being on the forum was not an important part of the process, of which it turns out was completely incorrect. I found this out when finally in July 2016, Kim LaFlamme contacted me that my puppy was ready with no warning and he wished to ship it immediately. I did not wish to fly my puppy and he become incensed stating that I would “spoil & baby” my puppy”. I agreed to ship the dog, he has bred these dogs for many years and I figured he must know more than I did about them. However, my decision was also based in part, in his threat that I would “miss out” since he did not know when or if he would have more litters. (there has since been more litters than I can count on the forum). I explained that I had no idea that the puppies were even born, he stated I should have been completely aware as everything is posted on the forum and that it is at the heart of the communication process for Song Dog Kennels.
I asked him to send me a picture of the pup he was choosing for me since I finally got on the forum and the pics on the forum were poor. He replied that all the puppies were taken and I would have to wait for another litter. So now I wasn’t getting a dog because I asked for a picture!? Things were getting really bizarre the more communication I had with Kim as during the interview he was very polite but became highly agitated and blamed me that I had not kept up with the forum when I had no way to login and no response from him or his team to register me.
Kim LaFlamme called November of 2016 with another option of a pup, I got my partner (with years of business experience) involved since Kim and I had several conversations and emails revealing an obvious communication problem between us. Apparently it wasn’t just me since soon after my partner spoke with him, it was again decided that I would not receive a pup from this litter but would wait yet again. Every detail is under his control and when I questioned him, he threatened “to use his Native American lawyers” on me if I posted any of the interactions that had occurred between us on the internet. I am half Native American, insult to injury again.
Eventually he responded to an email stating he would return my non refundable $500 deposit at his convenience and refused to give any timeline. After contacting him about every 3 months or so he stated in an email that if I did not contact him again through September 2017 that he would return my deposit after the litters or the income he would receive from the litters in September, that was bit unclear. I was grateful and thanked him for giving me a timeline to expect my refund and graciously agreed.
I did not speak with Kim again until today, October 15, 2017. He had a difficult time recalling the situation and it appeared that he was experiencing memory issues as he seemed at first, not to remember who I was and the agreements we had made. But soon following the confusion, he was raging at me once again. I asked him to please stop and that it was unnecessary to rant at me but perhaps take a look at the reality of the situation as documented in his previous email as this was a simple business transaction. He escalated once again, stating that he was hanging up the phone and stated that I should never call him again.
I just attempted to condense over one and a half years of nonsense into this post. If you choose to get involved with Laflamme, be aware that you will be entering into a business agreement with a man that has exhibited very irrational behavior. Upon my initial conversation with him when I agreed to send the security deposit, I experienced a totally different personality than the majority of the interactions to follow. His demeanor can become very unprofessional and he often becomes extremely rude, condescending and then simply hangs up the phone.
As I’m writing this to post, I just received an email from LaFlamme. The following is a direct quote and the final paragraph of his email. The conclusion is unclear to me, but it would appear that he is stating that he will pay me my deposit or “help me out” in the near future. It appears he did go back and read his last email stating that he would send the deposit if I did not contact him through September or as he states it “harass him”.
“I do appreciate you not harassing me in these last few months & will take that as a mutual agreement, that you will continue to do so, tell I possibly can help you out in the near future?”
So here we go back to the start of this chaos over a year and a half ago…still no refund, still no date of when a refund will be provided. By the way, the following quote is definitely one of Kim’s more polite statements. I suspect he is attempting to dissuade me from posting this as I did inform him I would do so when he told me he was hanging up on me and that we were done. I have no intent to harm others, I only wish that I would have read the previous complaint posted regarding Song Dog Kennels and I hope this helps others to understand the potential problems they could encounter should they choose to conduct business with Kim LaFlamme.
If Kim does refund me in the near future, I will be more than happy to post that information!
