I cut out my UPC codes for both the Sony VAIO laptop computer and my Sony CLIE handheld. I successfully got my rebate for my Memory Stick, which shows that my CLIE UPC code is fine. I also got my rebate for my Epson printer that I got together with my VAIO computer. For that rebate, I had to have BOTH the UPC codes for the VAIO computer and the Epson printer. So, that proves that my VAIO UPC code is fine.

Now, I've tried calling sony in a million ways that one could think of, and the conclusion is that they are looking into this situation "internally". It turns out that the West Caldwell rebate center's phone number is blocked because it has an area code of 866. Also, it "could" be that the UPC code needs to be an original UPC code. But I already provided my original UPC code for the Epson rebate, and I can't produce 2 originals!

The end result is that Sony is looking into this situation, and hopefully they'll help me and everyone else out.

Persistance pays! Keep calling, and keep bothering them - will get money back!

I had been calling them since May of 2002! It was an on going process for about 4 months. What I did was I first tried to contact the rebate center at West Caldwell NJ, but however, I failed, beacause Sony no longer file their rebate to the NJ rebate center. So I called up the recent rebate center, and again since my rebate ain't with them, they referred me back to Sony.

So, I called up Sony and this was the number I called:

888-476-6972

Since I had a sony laptop PCG-GR250, and a sony clie PEG-N760C, I pressed the following menu options:

4, 3, 1, 2, 3

This may or may not be the options you want, but somewhere along those lines, you can listen and pick your own model.

Then once you have connected to the operator, just say what happened to you, and they will follow up your case. They'll give you an Event ID, a string that starts with "E". Make sure to call them back every now and then, like every other day or something. Whenever you call back, just press the same menu options, and tell them your Event ID. Ask them you haven't heard from them yet.... what's going on?

Sure enough, they'll ask you to prove that you have really bought your stuff, and is legitimate for the rebate. So, have your UPC bar codes and receipts and everything ready. Fax it to them (they'll tell you what number to fax it to) and remember to fax it on ONE page, in case they lose your other pages.

Once you've faxed everything, again call back and see what's going on. Soon (and this soon took me 4 months), they'll get back to you and say that you are fit for the rebate, and sorry we haven't mailed it in earlier, but here it is. It'll take ages for the actual check to arrive. So, just keep calling, and be patient!

The one lesson I learnt from this is: "Persistance pays!!!" :)
