I am an Attorney who used Square.com ONCE because a client was out of pocket and needed my services.  It was a simple 1500 transaction. SIX months later, the client approached his credit card company who in turn contacted square alleging that the services were not rendered.  Without consulting their client (me!), Square arbitrarily debited the 1500 from my bank account, then placed the burden on their client (again ME!) to prove that services were rendered.  In my case, the service was an expungement.  I sent them the contract which indicated that the retainer fee was non-refundable, but neverless, Square indicated that they would advocate on behalf of my interest and that the process would take 90 days. For most people 1500 is a significant amount of money, especially if you had to perform work to get it. Square may be good for small purchases not exceeding 20 to 50 dollars, but if anything more than that, it is better to look at other options.  Customer service is terrible, responding with bolierplate emails asking you for information and telling you in the alternative that you can go to the self help system which doesnt amount to a hill of beans.  This buisness model was obviously created by a person who can not deal with people.  When you are dealing with peoples money, it is more important to speak to a live rep than to recieve one email every couple of days.  I will be closing my account and never recommending anyone other than a lemonade stand owner to use Square.
