Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was contacted by a Salesperson from Startup Essentials. He said that the company was listed with the BBB and were backed by JP Morgan Chase, HSBC bank and that they would help me get started in my own home business; he stated that they would be no guarantee that I would make money, which I know that requires a lot of hard work, which I didn't mind investing my time doing for extra income. However I did expect to receive a product that was reliable and in good condition.

Not only was the laptop (ACER) unreliable it never worked properly. It was defective. I sent the laptop back to A-1 Leasing via insured mailed with a returned receipt, which was signed for by an employee at A-1 Leasing, LLC; I contacted my bank to stop all payment authorization for the lease. I wrote a letter demanding that my lease be terminated due to the defective laptop equipment.

I contacted an attorney who also sent a letter to A-1 Leasing, LLC and Startup Essentials informing them that I no longer wanted to do business with their company. In response to the letters I recently recieved a letter from A-1 Leasing demanding payment for the past 2 months for the lease plus and additonal late fee of Forty dollars.

These companies still expect to receive monthly payments for a defective laptop that never worked and that has been returned and accepted by there company. They really believe that consumers should be responsible for continue payments for products that are defective and that they have received back. It seems to me there should be a law against such deceptive business practices as these company have going.

Startup Essential procures the leases from unsuspecting consumers on behalf of A-1 Leasing, LLC and probably receives a percentage for each non-cancellable lease they secure. I am not going to be a victim and just continue to pay for a lease product that I no longer have or want. I have taken steps to get out of this so called non-cancellable lease.

Hopefully the law will step in to stop scams such as this one that these companies like Startup Essentials and A-1 Lease, LLC and have them proscuted to the full extend of the law. There should be no such thing as a non-cancellable on defective products or any product that has been returned to the company.Startup Essentials has membership to BBB has been revoked as of May 14, 2007.

I am now getting ready to send a complaint to the Attorney General's office in Grand Rapids, Michigan against A-1 Leasing. If anyone know of any other legal steps that can be taken against these companies please share whatever information you may have. If we all come together we can put a stop to companie like Startup Essentials and A-1 Leasing, LLC from doing anymore harm to other consumers.

Loyd, You are absolutely correct, they cannot take your car, house, dog or anything. Also, make sure you document every thing regarding your pursuit of justice. I learned that by law you do not have to pay or talk to any collection agencies. Because you never signed a contract with the collection agency, only A-1. Also, document date and time of all phone calls received (even if you don't answer) constant phone calls can be considered harassment. Once you inform a company that you are taking action against them, you do not have to pay unless the court orders you and they are not allowed to call you constantly. The company calling and harassing you may have to pay you compensation for their deliberate harassment. Just my 2 cents Christine

Gee, I also got an Acer laptop. This thing is almost WORTHLESS! I stopped payments three months ago. Through many of these reports, I have gained some usefull information. First, stop paying. Close that account! Second, file a complaint with your state's Attorney Generals office. Contact all three of the credit reporting agencies and inform them of your situation. This might save your credit report. Lastly, contact Federal Trade Commision. You can find them at [email protected] , or so one rebuttal stated. I intend to try this. But I have definitley stopped paying. If my memory serves me correct, they cannot attach any of your assets,(payroll, house, vehichles, etc. without a court order.) and if they are this shady, with this many complaints, I really doubt that they can get that court order.

This morning I just received a call from a Culverson Taylor from Stuart Allan & Associates representing A-1 Leasing. I told him that I would not be paying for the defective Acer laptop that I was scammed into getting by Startup Essentials, and that they would be hearing from my attorney. I also recently spoke with a Mr. David Grossman in Texas, he is an attorney who in the early stages of starting up a class action suit against Startup Essential/A-1 Leasing in Dallas, Tx. I spoke with him briefly and let him know that I would like to be a part of the suit. I also contacted my lawyer here in New Jersey and was informed that I could also sue A-1 Leasing for the cost of the lease. I am going to continue to proceed to take legal action, I am just waiting to hear back from my attorney regarding the call I just received from Mr. Taylor. Sam Irvington, NJ

I also contacted my Attorney General's office, IC3 at the FBI, and they AG of TX. I was told by the TX AG that they no longer deal with "this type of report". I've also received a letter from the NY AG, saying this type of complaint is not within their realm of jurisdiction; that I should contact the BBB, which I had already done. I've filed with the BBB in TX and MI, and the FTC. I received a phone call from the Dallas police Dept. They spoke to the DA and let me know that there are class action suits against Startup Essentials, USA, etc and that there are a lot of us out there doing this. I'd like to find out who's filed the class action and get included in it.

I have received an email stating the Startup Essential is still in business. But I have no intentions of doing business with them again, that would be foolish. On the advise of my attorney I have requested a Business Status Report on Startup Essentials. In order to do business in the state of NJ the business should be registered. The cost of this would only be $5.00 So I went on line to www.state.nj.us/njbgs and requested this report. However Startup Essentials didn't come up. I have placed a call to my attorney to advise him of this fact and I am waiting for him to get back to me. But he also said that since A-1 Leasing is taking the position of simply being a financing company with no ties to Startup Essentials, then I should start a suit against Startup Essentials for breach of contract and sue them. I intend to do just that. In the mean time I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General Office in Michigan and Texas, I have contacted my bank and stopped all payments to A-1 Leasing, I have filed a complaint with BBB in both Texas and Mchigan. I contacted the credit bureau and placed a fraud alert. I have also filed a complaint with FTC in Washington, DC.

Hi Sam, Here are a few other things you can do. I just did this and I am waiting to see what happens. Make sure you send all letters certified. 1. Also send cert. letter to Attorney General in Dallas,Tx for Startup Essentials. 2. File a complaint with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) www.ftc.gov 3. File an internet crime complaint with the FBI. www.ic3.gov For both companies. 4. File a fraud alert with all 3 credit buraus. I just did all the above and the sent my laptop back to A-1 Leasing today. I wanted to send it to Startup Essentials but since they aren't there anymore I didn't want to waist my money in shipping costs. We will see what happens. Good Luck to you.
