Rates for my homeowners insurance have more than tripled over the last ten years.I have been with this company for almost 24 years and have never filed a claim. Recently, with my wife out of work, we have started to take a closer look at our expenses. For 2009 State Farm says it would cost $444,400 to cover our property, which we knew was far excessive. After talking to my agent and using State Farm Xactware estimating tool, we have found that the actual coverage should be $268,000. Asked to explain the huge gap in figures, my agent said he could not(or would not).We would like answers, but are being ignored by State Farm and our agent.

You stated that using State Farm exactaware you came up with $268,000.  BEWARE. Our home burned down a couple years ago and State Farms Exacaware was used to do the estimate.  We had a screened lanai. When State Farms prefered vendor put the square footage into the exactaware program it spit out an estimate of $15,000 to replace.  We have found out that the "prefered vendor" only had toi pay $7,500 to actually replace it so we lost $7,500 in coverage.

Infact exactaware said the cost for labor and materials to repair our home was $277,000 plus tax and 10% profit and 10% overhead for their "prefered vendor" which came out to $1,000 less than our entire coverage.  It actually only cost their prefered vendor about $225,000 for all his labor and materials.  So he or state farm made an additional $50,000 in profits.

Like you I have been a State Farm client for close to 30 years. They have turned in to just another business (like setting up their on bank, invetment plans and credit cards) and have forgotten about being GOOD NEIGHBORS.

My father stated with them in the 50's and pushed me to them with my first car. Im glad he's not alive to see what his GOOD HANDS, GOOD NEIGHBORS have become.

Did alot of research and shopping around folks! State Farm is ripping you off. How big is too big? They are so big, they can't keep up with the claims and are passing the cost along to you as huge increases in your premiums even if you NEVER filed a claim before. Find another insurer, I did and saved hundreds even with increased coverages. State Farm agents like Crow and McIntosh in Chardon and Middlefield, Ohio won't tell you ANYTHING though. They just like to sit on their a*ses and stare out the window and collect commisions.
