They sold me a tankless hot water heater, and my installer told me that it won't work for the whole house, that it will only work for one item, like a tub OR a sink OR a washing machine, & that it needs another $75 worth of wiring & plumbing supplies for him to make it work at all. They charged me $139.32 + Shipping of $15, for a Total of $155.16, & now they won't respond when I call them or send them E-Mails. I went thru their atanklesslife.com website, which they claim is a different company, & I registered that I want to return it for refund, & all they did was send me an automatic reply that my request was "pending," whatever that means. I sent an E-Mail to the president of the company, & he sent a reply saying he was sorry to hear about my troubles, but that they were not responsible for what their "distributors" do! I put in a dispute resolution with PayPal, but they turned it down, saying that it didn't fit their requirements - in other words, I had not PAID THEM FOR THEIR PROTECTION PLAN! I sent them another E-Mail saying there are 3 ADDRESSES on the box & in the materials enclosed: One in PA, one in OH, & one in MA., & asking where they want me to send the unit.

You tarred the product maker for the actions of the store

Need to point out that you named an innocent party, the manufacturer of the product, for the omissions/actions of the seller. Stiebel Eltron just makes the item. The website you purchased from has nothing to do with the manufacturer, other than it's one of many lines they sell. They might not have even been an authorized dealer for the item. Many such stores just buy what they get an order for from another dealer. Nevertheless I'm glad to see you got your money back. I came across this while looking for any negative reports on atanklesslife.com because I considered getting something from their sister site. Also know that just because someone rebuts your post doesn't mean they work for the company you wrote about. "Robert" is a frequent fellow poster here, as are a number of others. That, your meshing of a manufacturer with an independent retailer and your purchase of a clearly inadequate item for what you needed make up a hat-trick for wrong assumptions. But I do thank you for providing useful insight on the seller before I order anything from them.

I see that the person who filed a rebuttal to my original Report, sounds like the same person who sent me an E-Mail before I FINALLY got my refund! He must be one of the owners! He tried to make me look like a real dumbo, asking why would I buy such a small unit for such a large problem? Their website said NOTHING about any of this at the time.

After I FINALLY got my refund, some lady with their company sent me an E-Mail, asking me to ask Rip-off Report to take my Report down! She hadn't read any of Rip-off Report's website, as they state that THEY WILL NOT TAKE ANY REPORT DOWN, EVEN FOR MONEY! She said she would see that the website was made clearer! I haven't checked to see if this actually happened!

These people, like so many others, are going through the Reports on Rip-off Report and putting doubts in people's minds, by saying things like this, to make the writers look like dummies! They hope that future readers will go ahead and send/spend money anyway! It's a slick ruse!

Thank you, Rip-off Report, for doing a GREAT job of telling us about all these scams! No other website, whether BBB, government, or "watchdog group" is doing this well, and MANY of them will REMOVE a report under pressure, or for money! Government agencies need votes and money to keep operating! BBB agencies need approval of the community and business leaders plus money to keep operating! Remember the saying: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"

Don't send any money in advance FOR ANYTHING! In the long run, by searching the Internet, you can probably find other ways to get the job done, usually for FREE or low-cost!

With Rip-off Report, all the reports are in one place, easily searched. With Better Business Bureaus, Attorneys General, and other consumer "watchdog" groups, I have to hunt all over the country, state by state, city by city, and it takes HOURS to do this. With Rip-off Report, I do one simple search, it usually gives me alternate names and addresses used by "con artists" and "scam artists," and it even shows me other reports sent in by victims all over! Great job!

Keep up the good work!

How did you come about buying the tankless water heater?  That is did you just go out and order it off of the Internet, or did you talk to someone, explain what you wanted to use it for(whole house) and bought the one on their recomendation?

I say this because you paid only $140.  That is way too low for a "whole house" Tankless Water Heater.  More likely it sounds like a "Point-of-Use" water heater.  Which would explain why the plumber said that it would work on only 1 item.

For a "Whole House" Water Heater you are probably looking at a minimum of about $600-$700(but can go up into $1000 or more) for the system only.  You need to then add at least a couple hundred dollars for installation, depending on how much work needs to be done.
