We purchased a 2009 Mercedes SL550 from them.  They said the car was in great shape, nothing wrong with the car.

We discovered (from another dealership) and within 30 days of purchasing the car that the entire back quarter panel and the entire trunk of the car had been patched up from a major wreck! The salesman MADE us sign the "as is" paper....even though the car still had a warranty on the engine.  They denied knowing anything about the patch job, but other dealerships assured us that Straightline HAD TO HAVE KNOWN!   They said to a car person, the extensive damage was obvious.

Not in connection with this complaint, I was told by a third party high-end auto mechanic that it is daily practice for Straightline to patch up wrecked cars and lemons and push them onto unsuspecting victims.    I also turned them in for not releasing our title for more than 60 days.  As i understand, they were in violation and written up for it, but the State of Texas informed me they could not represent me as an attorney for their fraud, but that I might want to seek one.

"   They said the car was in great shape, nothing wrong with the car.  "

"They said"????   Was this the extent of your efforts to find out what you were buying?   Could the problem have been that you bought a used car "as is"  without bothering to find out the condition of the car?   It happens every day to people who are too lazy to have a used car checked out before committing to the purchase.    They always have time to have it checked out AFTER they own the problems, which seems somewhat counterproductive.

"  The salesman MADE us sign the "as is" paper....even though the car still had a warranty on the engine.  "

He made you sign it how?  Gun? Knife?   The "as is" paper, also known as the FTC Buyers Guide, told you that the seller was offering you no warranty.  In other words, any problems after the sale are yours.    This is why educated buyers have any "as is " purchase checked out before buying.   If you don't, you're just rolling the dice.   A quick checkout by even a marginally qualified mechanic would have revealed the damage repair.

Whether this dealer is any worse than others, I don't know.    I do know that if you use your current method to evaluate potential used car purchases, you are likely to buy another lemon in the future.

When the salesman held the gun on you and you signed

"The salesman MADE us sign the "as is" paper.."

they had you hooked.

Unless they really did strong arm you to sign, (held a gun to your head) YOU decided to do so.

AS-IS should be a clue that you are NOT getting a high quality product.

Hopefully the price was right on the car and you get good service from it.
