Travel agent? Then that changes things dramatically. Who did YOU personally pay the funds to - a travel agent or the airline directly? If it's an agent, then it is THEIR problem to manage, not yours. They should give you a refund immediately, then it's up to them to get what they can back from the airline. But more importantly, you also mentioned a credit card. In that case, let them handle it. Put it in writing to the credit card company that you are DISPUTING the charge because you received no services or consideration for the charge placed on your bill, and that you want the charge removed and a credit given. The problem here may be the time that has gone by. This step should be done immediately after finding a problem. Good luck!

Sun Country airlines went out of business due to the September 11th tragedy. Along with them, several others collapsed, too. You may want to write this money off, as they are fighting of credtors they owe millions of $$ to. Especially the aircraft leasing companies to whom they owe back rent on the aircraft they operated. If you are counting on the return of that money, you are looking at a long wait.
