A young woman came to my door claiming to be selling magazines, which would earn her X number of points towards a 3 week trip to 3 different islands. She pointed out that the magazine subscriptions could be donated to various organizations / causes (i.e. children @ a cancer research hospital). This touched a soft spot with me, having 2 family members suffering from cancer. As a result, I ordered 2 different magaizines for a total of $57.
When the young woman left, two young men drove up in a blue van and she got inside. This is when I became suspicious. I took down the license plate number and immediately went on line and did a google search for "sunshine subscription agency" and "C.G.S. collection agency" (the collection agency mentioned on the back of the order form)and quickly found out that this is a scam.
I called my local police dept. to report the incident and gave them a description of the vehicle and the license plate number. I then stopped payment on the check and notified the consumer affairs reporter @ my local TV station.
