I signed a 3-year contract (thought it was two year) in July 2012, for zero down payment and have $20 monthly payments automatically on my credit card. I discovered that I was pregnant in September and then the next year of August, I moved to the other side of town. Having a baby full-time and the gym was completely out of my way (20-min drive), I came in the gym to see if I can cancel the contract. - NOPE! Any of my circumstances cannot be ruled against their contract.
The only way to cancel this contract: 1) Have a doctor sign a note that I am no longer allowed to use the fitness center. 2) Proof of address that is at least 50 miles away from the fitness center. <~~~THAT one is the extremely fine print.
They advised me to sign an account suspension with the understanding that I would not have any charges on the credit card account - and I signed. Month after month, charges were still being made to the CC acct?!? I called them and they said: They've suspended my use of the gym, I am still under contract to keep paying those monthly payments. And I can come back any time in the future, if my contract is up I can use the number of months that I suspended.
This still does not make any sense to me. Really pisses me off because I now know that with the time and attention that I have for my baby and a 20-min drive to the gym is NOT gonna work. I'm stuck with another 14 months of payments!!!! And get this... it's non-transferrable either.
I feel like this is not a legal binding contract but a financial agreement that I signed for to have them take my money. Sucker.
