Thanks to Ripoffreport.com, I'm hoping that I just warded off a catastrophy caused by my unbelievable gullibility!

I just took a call from a Jackie Hart who said she was referred to me by our company HR person. "Jackie" said that she and her husband (Paul) are closing their business (Hart Supply) in Manchester, NH and moving it to Mississippi. She asked if I'd ever been to MS. She stated that they are closing out their supply inventory and calling area businesses in this effort.

She quoted very reasonable pricing for office supplies we use frequently (post-its, scotch tape, paperclips, uniball pens, binder clips, hiliters) and seemed to work with me with regard to amounts because she recalled that our HR person advised her that our storage capacity was limited (indeed, it is!).

The voice within me said to end the call and hang up, but . . . I asked Jackie a number of questions, all of which she very easily and readily answered. I gave her a PO# and completed the order which would include a Palm Pilot that she would "throw in at no extra cost." I asked her for an amount for the order. She said she hadn't been keeping track but that it will all be detailed on the supply delivery, which we should see in 3-5 days. The actual invoice will follow in about a month and will be mailed out by a separate invoicing company that they're working with in MS.

As soon as I hung up the receiver, I did an Internet search on the phone number that, at my request, she gave me (228-863-8444). It took me to www.ripoffreport.com which confirmed what I had been suspecting throughout my conversation with her!

I called that number and got voicemail. I left a detailed message saying to cancel the order immediately and that if supplies do start arriving, they will be rejected and returned. I called again and reiterated this. We'll see in a week's time whether I nipped this in the bud or not. I'm just glad that ripoffreport.com was here! I don't normally allow myself to be conned. I'll be kicking myself for this one for months!
