Complaint Review: SURFSIDE MEDICAL IN LOS ANGELES - JOHN LORD CLINICS - LOS ANGELES California

I normally don’t file complaints or even any negative reviews since my father taught me that if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone don’t say anything. But in this case I feel as though I need to make sure I let anyone who is considering getting a transplant with John Lord to stay away. I went to him about 10 years ago for a transplant found out the person doing the transplant not only was not a licensed doctor (I think David Larkin, but I forgot his name) but neither was John Lord. I had a great head of hair with one little bald spot in back at the top crown of my head that I wanted to get filled in. The idiot doing my surgery not only filled in that spot but he cut my head open field and all of the rest of my head and made all my good hair fall out. It was my fault for not telling him to put it in the only bald spot but as someone who has experience he should’ve known not to ask me the question in just to fill in the bald spot since it would make all the good hair fall out. I found out later somebody died in the same chair I was in away One week later well my head was still swollen from surgery and they tried to cover up the person’s body by putting it in some sort of dumpster. I could’ve gone in on a lawsuit with the person's family who was killed I decided against it. Looking back I regret not going in on the lawsuit. This guy completely ruined my great head of hair and a literally could have killed me. How he is not in prison I do not understand. If you see John Lords name please do not make the same mistake I did

"Skystars" is John Lord, a convicted felon, who has operated a number of hair transplant facilities with a number of patient complaints and even a patient death.

John Lord has posted on other forums using the "Skystar" name and evidently felt that no one would do any research. He was wrong. He should come on and defend himself rather than using a bogus name. My guess is that it would be impossible for him to defend his track record and felony conviction, so he will hide behind a pseudonym as a laughably fake patient. Just reading through "Skystars" posting should make it very clear that no real patient would ever make claims about refunds, etc. We are supposed to believe that he saw a refund check laying on the desk for another patient? John Lord believes that everyone is a sucker, evidently.

John Lord has operated the Lord Clinic, Surfside Medical, Crown Cosmetic and likely others. John Lord sells hair transplants, laser treatments and bogus potions thatall sell the dream of puttinghair on the heads of emotionally charged young men at an unbelievably low price.

No one is buying it.

I did not feel comfortable with John Lord or his hair transplant clinic.  As all consumers should do, I did my research before having hair implants from Surfside Medical which used to be called Crown Medical and before that the Lord Clinic.

From my research the following FACTS came out:

I learned that John Lord is not a real doctor.  He is a convicted felon in California and that his felony conviction relates to his hair business.

I learned that his clinic was sued due to the death of a patient during hair transplants there.  The patient was overdosed on lidocaine during the surgery and died.  The doctor that did it lost his license to practice in California.

You can verify these facts as they are available in the public record.   Do a Google search on, John Lord fatal hair transplant, before you consider doing business with this person.  Also just take a look at the before and after pictures on his website and see if you find them believable and of high quality.  Compare those photos with those from any high-quality, reputable hair clinic.

Whether from this clinic or any other, do your research!  Surgery of this kind is permanent and it is not worth the risk of being disfigured or dying in an attempt to save a few bucks.  It costs 5 times as much to get a bad hair transplant fixed and nothing is worse on your head than bad plugs.

As a former patient of LORD CLINIC and SURFSIDE I visited one of their clinics after I read this guys complaint. This guy is odd. I personally spoke with the OWNER of LORD CLINIC AND SURFSIDE. They have had a check waiting for him at the office for almost a month now ever since he complained. They even offered him an extra bit to have this removed but the guy is apparantly just being weird. Let me tell you this. I had 5 proceedures done and EVERYBODY says my hair looks GREAT! I was as bald as a cue ball! This guy says the clinic owes him 450.00 bucks. That is laughable! We are talking about at Lord Clinics awesome price when compared to other clinics a grand total of 225 HAIRS!. Shop around do the math!You normally do about 10 times many grafs that on a proceedure, so around 2000-2500 per proceedure. So it sounds more like the guy wants a 10 Percent discount is all. If this guy went to another high end clinic that is called "B----y" he would end up with about 50 grafs or as much as on one eyelid for the same money. This guy is complaining about nothing here. He obviously does not want his hair done and is happy to be bald. Tel me tell you, I go out into the sun and no more sun burns on my head. Woman do not stare at my bald spot any more.

I felt I needed to add to my rebuttal for two reasons. LORD CLINIC or SURFSIDE CLINIC has treated thousands of patients. In this they have only had 1 lousy stinking complaint thus far. that to me is a pretty darned good track record. One guy who cannot be made happy. I got the feeling the guy is anti-social. Also I needed readers of this complaint above to know I wrote this of my own volition. Nobody , not one person at SURFSIDE or LORD or anywhere asked my to write this. In fact, they probably do not even know I wrote it. I do know they treated me very well and would go there again as well as recommend this to any of my friends and family, that you go there if you want a proceedure done. This is the place to go. I did the homework on this years ago.

I had several proceedures with Surfside and while I am very saddened by this death of a patient, I doubt very much the doctors used too much medicine during their procedure. In fact, I complained and insisted they use more to alleviate the mild pain. They were extremely conservative in their proceedure. They in my opinion are very honest. All questions were answered by their staff honestly. Now about this person who claims to have been shorted for his hair. I sinceely doubt that. I had thought the same thing at one time, I mean it is simple. Thoughts go through your head after a proceedure and you have to wait months for a result. So, you say to your self "Who is counting those grafs?" Maybe this is a rip off, they are tipping the hair scale here. I do not think so and here is why. I have on all of my prceedures told them to get the maximum and they came back brutally honest on at least 2 proceedures and said they would be unable to since the area being trnasplanted would NOT permit the amount of grafs I had hoped for. They could have easily said, "Sure no problem we can do that here is your bill" That never happened and instead they stated a much less amount than I had hoped for. That is called honesty. Further fact, I asked on several occasions if I could do yet another proceedure and the doctor as well as the surcical techs said that would not be possible due to the limit of the donor area. They refused to treat me out of honsesty and not to make a buck! That is integrity. So they have had numerous opportunities to rip me off. They never once did and in fact offered me a discount on each and every occasion when they had no reason to. Every time I had any issue, the problem was resloved to my satisfaction and I felt Dr. Larkin and his Staff were extremely professional every time and I would repeat this in court if need be. They were honest, caring and sincere. Infact I suggest before you consider having your hair done, shop around. I did from coast to coast. That is right from California to Florida and this place was the most cost effective location. So do your homework and you will see this team is honest. Again I am sorry to hear of this loss.
