I saw a listing on craigslist for an incredibly low-priced MacBook Pro. I wrote the following message:

------------------------

I will buy it for $475.

Call me at 801-373-0987

Let me know where to pick it up. I will take good care of it.

I figured that the person had mis-listed the price or something. I was expecting an eMail back that said, "Sorry, I priced it wrong. It should say $1475. Sorry." Instead, I got the following eMail:

Subject: the MacBook PRO from craigslist $475

Hello

I still have the laptop. I have attached some pics with the laptop to this e-mail. I am now in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I would like to use a service that will help us with that. Please go here to see the procedure:

TNT is a worldwide delivery company (like Fedex, DHL or UPS). You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check the laptop before I receive the payment. If you are in a hurry, I will use 2 day delivery (shipping is on me).

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Susan

------------------------------

I have written "Susan" back and asked how I should pay and where to send payment. I have a feeling that this is a templated scam. People get the how-to packet in the mail or work directly for a larger non-legit company.

As these people fish for fools, they get excited when they get a bite. Their writing gets sloppier and their language skills drop way down once they get beyond the standard eMails. This is nearly always the sign of a scammer! Once the proverbial fish on the hook looks unlikely to wriggle off the hook, they get lazy and sloppy about reeling it in.

I found a few other sites with people who have been pulled in by someone named "Susan" using the same scam in the same country. Here is a link to some eMail savvy people who have received the same eMails: (((Redacted)))

Hopefully, this crime ring will be stopped and Susan will be brought to justice.

Here's another site full of people who nearly fell to this scam: (((Redacted)))
