Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
All right, I am a professional and I had obtained a job in OR under contract with relocation covered by the hiring corporation.  I was moving from upstate NY.  Considering I had a full house and this was nearly a 3000 mile move that was mostly covered by my company, it was a large profit job for United Van Lines.

My issue is multi-layered.  First, United Van Lines uses sub-contractors to move based on locality.  Over the course of time, I was not notified that the time frame I had desired would be busy or unavailable.  When I was finally contacted, I was informed I could not move the last week of June secondary to it being fully booked and that my items had to be picked up the 19th and delivered by the the 25th.  I clearly explained that I was still under contract until the 27th in NY and could not physically be in OR on those dates.  I was subsequently charged nearly $900 for storage in NY.  When the movers that picked my items up arrived, they relayed that no storage charge should be charged as no driver was available.  Furthermore, multiple contacts to United Van Lines corporate HQ in MO revealed they knew of no such charges.  The charges were coming directly from the subcontractor in OR, Swartz.

I was willing to let this go.  However, upon receipt of the estimate, which was my moving contract, I was not provided with additional required documentation that the contract specified I saw, nor a moving packet, nor any information regarding the insurance.  In fact, the original contract was signed incorrectly by myself secondary to a lack of information.

This is where I nearly lost it.  I had a verbal conversation with Ms. Davidson regarding the fact that I could not get to OR until 7/9.  This was the defense for the $900 storage fee which I had just accepted for simplicity by this point.  I was called on 7/2 and told my items would arrive by 7/6 or 7/7.  It takes a solid five days to drive from NY to OR.  I explained this and was told if I wasn't present that ANOTHER storage charged would be incurred.

I finally contacted my hiring company.  I am quite tired of dealing with this pure incompetence and lack of respect for the consumer's rights on a solid $10k plus move.  None of the dates dictated by Swartz or United were of my choosing.  I feel like I was bossed around by a corporate dictator with the assumption I wouldn't care as I had a set amount of $ for relocation.  However, I had incurred other charges, like finding a place to live, air fares, car rentals, driving 3000 miles, tolls etc etc etc that exceeded my allotment from my company in part because of excess charges from United.

To further compound the situation, corporate never did ANYTHING.  After I specifically requested to not speak with Ms. Davidson, they did nothing more than contact her and have her contact me again.

I have made multiple large moves in my life.  I have never experienced such incompetence, lack of respect, disregard to consumer rights and laziness.  I have great disdain for writing up people and companies on the internet, but this absolutely absurd.

Points:
-AVOID SWARTZ MOVING IN OR AND THE WEST COAST
-ACKNOWLEDGE THAT UNITED IS SUB-CONTRACTORS THAT HAVE NO REAL CONTROL FROM CORPORATE
-ALWAYS MAKES SURE YOU GETTING A MOVING PACKET

Thank you.
