Syntax has not sent my $55 rebate check after seven months, even though rebate was accepted, processed, and approved but never sent.

When I first saw the rebate offer from Syntax and Tiger Direct back in February, I thought it would be a fantastic way to test out new products for cheap. And it was - a motherboard with a built in CPU for $59.99? Not bad. Couple that with a $54.99 rebate, and that sealed the deal. A week later, I sent in my rebate forms and checked www.web-rebates.com periodically for the status, which in late March was "Received" and then a bit later "processing."

Over the next seven months, I made four phone calls which were always handled by real people who always told me the same thing: "There's massive response to this promotion, we're far behind, your check will be mailed in four weeks, etc., call us again in four weeks and we'll try to expedite your check." I made these calls in April, June, July and August. Keep in mind that their corporate website and all the literature I have says "Expect your check in 10-12 weeks."

So at the end of September, I made yet another call and discovered that their number had been changed. Now, when I call the new number - no longer toll free and to the 909 area code out in California - I am greeted with an endlessly ringing phone, then a robotic voice that tells me I can leave a message.

It doesn't even tell me WHO I'm supposed to be leaving a message for. So I left a message with my name and phone number and the words FRAUD and CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT and now I'm waiting for someone to get back to me, which hasn't happened yet.

I will never ever purchase another item from Syntax OR Tiger Direct. Tiger Direct really bends you over a table and sticks it to you with the shipping charges, and Syntax flips you over for another go with the rebates they never deliver. This has been the most frustrating rebate experience of my life - honestly, CompUSA and Best Buy deliver better on their promises, and that's truly sad.

A few weeks after filing reports with the BBB and Rip-Off Report, I got the check for the promised $54.99 rebate in the mail from Syntax. Just the check, of course - no explanations, no apologies, no justification. I will NEVER buy from Syntax or Tiger Direct again. They are both horrible to do business with, and just because they made good on their rebate offer EIGHT MONTHS LATER does not mean that they are eager to please their customers. It means they're eager to avoid lawsuits.
