I am sorry that the person filing this complaint had a negative experience, but "Ripoff Report" is a site for reporting frauds. The TCBA and the tarot certification process is not a fraud, though you are free to disagree with the organization's practices, approach, or even test-taking procedures, and you are certainly free to disagree with tarot. Tarot, by the way, is not fortune-telling. In fact, that is one reason why it is so crucial to have TCBA and a certification process: to guide would-be tarot practitioners on tarot ethics.
Tarot is an analytical tool not unlike many psychological or personality tests. It's a subjective mechanism that allows us to use signs, symbols and archetypes, in other words the abstract, to make better sense of our present lives. For many, it works. It's a form of meditation or inner reflection. It does not predict the future and it is not fortune-telling. Those who purport that tarot can do that are the frauds that Ripoff Report should be paying attention to, not TCBA.
I am happy to share my experience as an outsider who one day decided to try out the certification process, someone who isn't even by profession a tarot reader. See: (((link redacted)))
The tarot certification process isn't fraudulent. It's simply contentious: not everyone agrees with the concept of certification or how this one Board, the TCBA, approaches test-taking procedure. Either way, that's for hearty debate, not for filing Ripoff Reports.

Wow! You have to pay to be certified to defraud paople?
Unbelivable, Tarot certification? That's among the most ridiculous things I've ever read.
Tarot is righ there on the fraud level with psychics, spell casters, witch doctors, ouija boards etc.
You be better off calling Harry Potter.
Disgusting!!

i dont believe in any of this but I am in to business practice and straight from their site...
With all this in mind, we've created a way for the Tarot Community to display their knowledge and skill with honesty and conviction.
So hang them loud and proud.

I am a Certified Tarot Grand Master with the TCBA and former Executive director. I stepped down in june of 2008 after the death of my father. I hand picked Michelle as my replacement and recommended her to the board which voted unanmously to hire her as the new Executive director. I continue to work with the Board on a vollenteer basis, doing their updates and publishing the news letter.
As someone who has both gone through the process of certification and someone who has worked closely with the TCBA. I have a few points to make regarding the company and the woman who made the origional report.
1. The TCBA refuses to allow people to place a copy of their certificate online to prevent anyone from being able to counterfit the certificates. That is the only reason they do not want them online and insist on sending hard copies not digital copies of certificates.
You are however allowed to display your hard copy of your certificate anywhere you do readings in public be it your own home, an office space, or a Pshycic/New age Fair/Festival. We also highly recommend displaying the certificate if you ever vollenteer your services to a halloween party, or school fundraiser. This is what the website is refering to when it suggests displaying the certificate.
2. Those wishing to show that they are certified by us on their website can simply state that they are certified and give the contact information to the TCBA for verification. They do offer that service.
3. If you make it higher than the basic three levels you get your name on their website listing you as a member. Make it as high as a grandmaster and they will include a website link with your name.
4. The purpose in the TCBA is not to verify that people are psychic. It is to test their abilities to interpret symbolism found in the tarot, their empathy towards others, and their professionallism when dealing with the public. In an attempt to make a clients experiance more uniform and accurate. We are attempting to stop the Ms. Cleo's of the world not empower them.
The woman who filed this report recieved her certifications. She is angry because the Board asked her not to place them on the internet where others could make copies of them. She also became angry when her attempts to line herself up as the Executive Directors future replacement were rebuffed. She has since attempted to create her own board and is using this forum as an attempt to even the playing field.

I was surprised and dismayed to see this posting. I have been working with the TCBA for over a year on my tarot certifications and have had nothing but positive, professional interactions with them generally and with Michelle Perkins in particular.

There is a certification for Tarot card readers, that like telling the future. So I guess your ability to tell the future kinda sucks since you didn't know about this scam before you lost your money. I know a real good witch doctor.
