I've checking account with TCF.Bank of Illinis since 2000.

Problem started in early 2002 when I purchase some goods from Marshalls Store in Palatine IL. and then have to return them back. Store credit was issued but it never showes on my Bank account, I was using TCFBank checking card.I call My Bank and have visited them severall times and each time I've heard that they'll send me a statment charging me 5 dollars for it.

Statments showed only one Credit to my account, but still missing the other two.I went back to Marshalls and ask them for a copy of credits and then go back to TCF.Bank to show those Guys that all Three credits were paid back to my account but only one was issued on my banking monthly statment, finally I was told that because it's more than Year they cant do anything about that, one of the employee promissed to send me copy of statements for past year and I've never receive anything.

Today 03/12/2003 I go to the Bank and find out that my account balance is negative so I try to pay the difference $10,68 to bring my account up to date, since this negative balance occured only day before I try to negotiate and pay difference but were told that there will be charge of $35. I ask why and start to arguing with the service employee first I heard Shut Up and then He said that He will call the Police,so I said OK. call the Police and I will talk to them.

Then He sent another person to work with me. Actually we did not resolve my problems at all. Who can help me out with those guys out there, they don't care about my problems showing bad attitude and ignorance, I feel bad about this,I was mistreated and had to cry this all situation is very confusing and I really don't know what to do.

What this individual is not understanding is that TCF does not initiate the credits to his account, so they have no way of tracking them and have no way of fixing the problem. The credits are initiated by the store's Visa processor, and the problem is apparently with them. TCF is able to investigate his claim through their Regulation E department, but frankly the merchant could have handled it much more quickly. The problem is that most merchants don't know how to handle the situations properly because their staff are undertrained, and so they shift the blame to the bank. And if a service rep at a bank threatens to call the police, that means you are getting out of line. If you are kind and patient with the person helping you, the results will usually be taken care of in a better way. If you are rude and don't listen to what the person is saying, they're going to have a much harder time sympathizing with you.
